The Role

Imperial Brands is investing in building a Global Business Services Team. Working as part of the Finance Centre of Capability (CoC), the role is to be part of the Tax & Statutory Delivery team supporting the Group’s compliance with internal and regulatory tax requirements.

Working within the newly formed RTR and Tax & Stats Delivery team of Imperial Brands’ Centre of Capability this is a high-profile role supporting the Top 3 markets (UK / US / Australia) with the coming extension for Spain and Germany.

Reporting to the Head of RTR and Tax & Stats Delivery, the Tax, TB, and Statutory Manager will lead a team of 8-10 specialists. They will manage the creation of accurate financial data for tax compliance and statutory accounts and implement business process improvements.

Key responsibilities include supporting Imperial Brand’s legal entities with statutory and tax compliance, covering:

  • Statutory Accounting
  • Direct Taxes
  • Indirect Taxes
  • Group tax reporting, query management, and ETR forecasting.

Key Accountabilities

Supporting the Head of RTR and Tax & Stats Delivery: in:

  • Day to day Team Management of a sub-team of 8 – 10 Tax, TB & Stats specialists and analysts,
  • Reviewing and being responsible for quality and quality control of the sub-team
  • Supporting the delivery of end-to-end process delivery for:
  • Responsible for local and group statutory reporting
  • Ownership of the data for income tax return
  • Ownership of the data & collection for VAT returns
  • Responsible for accounting for income taxes
  • Implementing proposed business / process changes
  • Responsible for operational reporting
  • Proactively drives individual and team performance to achieve results
  • Supporting the management of the relationship with the respective Managed Service Providers ensuring they deliver in accordance with KPIs,
  • Supporting with identifying and implementing enhancements over the control and governance of the data that is collected and shared with the Managed Service Providers,
  • Reviewing current processes for the purpose of supporting with the documentation of Standard Operating Procedures,
  • Overseeing key processes and controls in accordance with the Tax Governance Framework and guidance provided by the Tax Centre of Excellence to ensure the
  • provision of complete and accurate data to enable correct tax calculations and eliminate errors,
  • Working collaboratively with the key stakeholders within the operating model including the Head of RTR and Tax & Stats Delivery within the COC, In Market teams, the Tax Centre of Excellence, other specialists within the Finance COC, as well as the Managed Service Providers.
  • Working collaboratively with the other CoC team members to ensure cross learning, communication and continuous process improvement to automate & enhance Tax and Statutory reporting capability (both technology and process improvements).
  • Being a pro-active member of the CoC team with a strong “can-do” attitude.

Skills & Experience

  • Leadership experience and team management of tax teams (of a team c.8 – 10).
  • Strong understanding (specialization in) one or more of the following areas: direct tax, statutory, indirect tax, international environment (preferably SSC/BPO).
  • Experience implementing business / process changes.
  • Very strong understanding of data flows and accounting principles allowing for effective preparation of data for the completion of tax computations and statutory accounts by external advisors.
  • Previous experience / knowledge of ERP accounting systems i.e. SAP / CFIN is required.
  • Great people skills – able to work with team members at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills and capable of handling a variety of tasks & prioritising accordingly to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, project management and problem-solving attitude.
  • Experience in continuous improvement and streamlining of tax processes.
