We're currently seeking an Expert Design Engineer to be part of our Mechanical Engineering team focusing on Integrated System and Solutions at Wartsila in Gdynia, Poland. The role offers the flexibility of hybrid remote work.

As an Expert Design Engineer, you will:

  • Support sales in new build projects and studies on alternative fuel systems and the latest trends in decarbonization and electrification of the marine industry
  • Contribute to feasibility studies and engineering documents following international standards and Wärtsilä guidelines in content and quality
  • Evaluate ship designs based on alternative fuels regulations and Wärtsilä's decarbonization strategy
  • Provide design work and technical information for sales projects adhering to guidelines and schedules
  • Stay updated on market trends of alternative fuels and marine electrification
  • Be open to challenges, especially in decarbonization and electrification of the marine industry
  • Review/approve designs by colleagues
  • Collaborate with teams within IS&S and other Business Lines at Wartsila

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Solid technical knowledge in Ship integration, Marine systems, and Interface identification
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, including marine and technical terminology
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in shipbuilding or ocean engineering
  • Strong collaboration, customer service, and team player mindset working across boundaries
  • Innovative thinking and customer-focused approach
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities
  • Desire to learn, proactive attitude towards professional development
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic environment
  • Over 5 years of experience in marine industry/Marine System engineering
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, and collaborate with diverse teams
  • Proficiency in MS Office and 2D CAD software

Additional skills that would be beneficial include:

  • Familiarity with classification societies rules and maritime requirements for alternative fuels and new industry trends
  • Experience with 2D/3D software for piping ship design

Some travel is required in this role to meet customers globally, around 10% of the time, with most meetings held virtually or face-to-face.
