About the team and your role:

Path finding, travel time estimation, and accurate EV/fuel consumption prediction are crucial for various location-based services and navigation solutions provided by HERE. These services involve personalized route planning, fleet optimization, and solutions to facilitate the shift to electric vehicles in the transportation and logistics industries.

The Routing team at HERE is dedicated to developing a comprehensive and efficient routing solution for different modes of transportation (pedestrian, bicycles, scooters, cars/electric cars, multiple truck profiles) while offering customers significant flexibility for personalization based on data or route options.

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting experiments on real-world location data for travel time estimations/consumption and assessing routing services against these estimates
  • Prototyping enhancements for the Routing API experience by utilizing customer probes and other data sources
  • Establishing and expanding robust data processing and machine learning pipelines
  • Analyzing and evaluating traffic data feeds to assess their impact on route calculation
  • Supporting the productization and delivery of proposed improvements in close collaboration with development teams

Who are you?

Qualifications:

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related technical field
  • Over 5 years of experience in executing projects with a solid comprehension of the data science process, including data preparation, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, statistical and mathematical analysis, as well as proficiency with algorithms and coding
  • Proficiency in the Python programming language and familiarity with scikit, Pandas, and Jupyter notebooks. Alternatively, expertise in Matlab or R
  • Experience with continuous integration tools like Jenkins or CI workflows in Gitlab or GitHub
  • Hands-on experience in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
  • Proficiency with containers (Docker) and their orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and a team player
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal

Knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Experience in data engineering/processing (pySpark, Dask, Ray, or similar technologies)
  • Previous involvement in automating Machine Learning pipelines
  • Understanding of location-based services like mapping, navigation, and GPS
