Project Overview:

For over 70 years, Bechtel has been at the forefront of nuclear innovation delivering clean, reliable energy worldwide on over 150 nuclear power plants, adding more than 74,000 megawatts of nuclear generation capacity to the world. Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Candidates Must have the Legal right to Live & Work in Poland without the need for any form of Visa Sponsorship.

Candidates Must be Fluent in the Polish Language with a High Level of English.


Job Summary:

This role will support design development Structural engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with other Structural engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.


This position will be based in our Warsaw office. Initially 5 days per week Monday - Friday. Later Transitioning to an optional Hybrid work pattern of at least 3 days per wek in the Office with 2 days working from home.


Major Responsibilities:

Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations and specifications.

Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines.

Prepare technical reports relates to specific design issues.

Manage specifically assigned project activities.

Provides technical direction to designers and less experienced engineers as directed.

Assist in constructability reviews.

Contacts counterpart in other disciplines, supplier/client representatives and project field personnel when directed, to either gather or give information.

Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.

Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.

Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.

Analyze structures using GTSTRUDL or STAAD.

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a team and providing support as needed

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or related) from accredited university and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Must be authorized to live and work in country without sponsorship.

Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.


Required Knowledge and Skills:


Minimum:

Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.

Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.

Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.

Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.

Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCad.

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.

Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.

Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.

Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.

Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.


Preferred:

Have Poland Professional Engineering (PE) license.

Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.

Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.

(Familiar with Bechtel standard programs is useful*)

Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.

Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS*).

Experience in the structural design of Nuclear facilities.

Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.

Experience in resolving field problems associated with FCNs, FCRs, NCRs, CRs, and/or SDDRs.

Experience with GE Nuclear Plant designs.

Modular reactor plant design experience.
