Senior Scala Engineer – Cloud Microservices Upgrade Project

Location: Kraków, Poland (Hybrid – 2 days/week in office)

Contract Length: 12 months

Rate: Up to 210 PLN/hour

Start Date: ASAP

Team Size: 7 Scala engineers (part of a larger 16-person tech group)

About the Role

This is a backend-focused Scala engineering role within a highly technical team working on a flagship cloud migration project for a major financial institution. The work involves upgrading legacy microservices into GCP and contributing to vulnerability-related engineering tasks.

The role is purely technical, with no business-facing responsibilities. Financial domain experience is not required. The team operates in an Agile environment and values clean, functional code and modern engineering practices.

Tech Stack

• Scala (core language)

• Akka and ZIO (strong preference)

• MongoDB, Oracle

• Docker, Kubernetes (GCP)

• Kafka-like messaging systems

• Functional programming principles

• Exposure to AWS/Azure is a bonus

Responsibilities

• Upgrade and modernise microservices into GCP

• Contribute to vulnerability-related engineering work

• Collaborate with a team of Scala developers

• Participate in Agile ceremonies and technical discussions

• Write clean, testable, functional code

Requirements

• 5+ years in software development, ideally in product-focused environments

• Strong Scala experience, including Akka or ZIO

• Solid understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms

• Experience with MongoDB, Oracle, and messaging systems

• Comfortable with functional programming

• Based in or near Kraków, Poland (hybrid work model)

Interview Process

1. Technical Interview (1 hour) – conversational, focused on Scala and project overview

2. Meet & Greet – office visit to meet the team

3. Quick turnaround – decisions often made after the first interview.
