Dear Consultant,


Our Multinational client is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to help tech lead our geodiverse development team.

The Ekata – Platform & API Team is responsible for building and maintaining customer-facing APIs for our products.

In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain high-performance data processing applications on the JVM platform (primarily in Clojure) running on AWS.


Our ideal candidate has experience mentoring and leading developers, building scalable internal and external APIs, and advocating for innovative technologies to tackle complex challenges. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a team setting, values continuous learning, and is passionate about contributing to open-source projects.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a Scrum team located across the US West Coast and Central Europe.
  • Develop low-latency, high-throughput backend (JVM, REST API) solutions in a cloud-native, geo-distributed system.
  • Perform analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Write and review design documentation, propose comprehensive solutions, and estimate work.
  • Adhere to Mastercard standards, processes, and best practices.


Required Skills:

  • Proven backend software development experience in professional team settings (minimum 7+ years).
  • Proficiency in backend microservices development using JVM languages (OOP or FP) with modern service frameworks.
  • Experience working with cloud-native environments (minimum 2+ years with AWS).
  • Strong understanding of unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, and source control systems.
  • Fluent English communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong collaborative and organizational abilities.
  • Willingness to work shifted hours (~3 times per week until 18:30).


Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with Clojure, Scala, or other functional programming languages.
  • Experience building scalable, performant RESTful APIs for large data processing.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools like Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Hands-on experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Cucumber, RestAssured).
  • Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases and messaging systems (e.g., Redis, DynamoDB, Kafka).
  • Cloud-based technologies experience (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with workflow automation tools like Airflow.
  • Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Broad understanding of software engineering craftsmanship.
  • Experience in delivering secure solutions within Financial/Fraud Services is a plus.
