Material Artist | Seedworld

We are looking for experienced Material/Shader Artists to work on one of the biggest Metaverse projects ever - Seedworld on Unreal 5.2+. As a Material/Shader Artist, you will utilize your strong understanding of Unreal and common artist software (Substance Painter, Designer, Zbrush, etc.) to create and enhance shaders for assets and landscapes in Seedworld.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with the Art Department team to develop shaders for assets and landscapes during the crucial look development phase.
  • Ensure shader development aligns with the artistic style of Seedworld.
  • Develop shaders and procedural textures based on reference artwork, paint overs, and the look development target under the direction of the Art Director.
  • Contribute to creating high-quality shaders for human characters and fantasy elements that meet the Art Director's vision.
  • Apply knowledge of shader optimization to meet memory and frame rate requirements.
  • Work with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Developers to understand technical needs and optimize the pipeline.
  • Research and implement new shader development techniques.
  • Create custom nodes or functions as needed for R&D purposes.
  • Participate actively in technical and artistic discussions and contribute to creative solutions.
  • Prepare clear documentation to improve internal and external communication within the team.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of shader development experience in the gaming industry with at least one AAA game released on PC or console in the past 5 years.
  • 5+ years of experience using Maya, Photoshop, Z-Brush, Mudbox or similar software.
  • 5+ years of shader development for Unreal, utilizing all its shading tools (Node, Blueprint, HLSL, ...). Additional development experience is a plus (C++ programming, etc.).
Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong experience in developing and compiling shaders within Unreal.
  • Good balance of visual and technical knowledge in shading, texturing, and look development.
  • Artistic eye to collaborate effectively with the Art Director.
  • Experience with advanced shaders (Water, SSS, Foliage, etc.).
  • Knowledge of OpenGL GLSL/HLSL and lighting in Unreal.
  • Solid understanding of 3D requirements before shading (UV, Texture Layout) and common texturing pipelines.
  • Fast, organized, collaborative, and receptive to feedback.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, fluency in English, and understanding of production values and deadlines.
Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with ShaderFX for Maya.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Mel, C++ scripting, Blueprint).
  • Experience with FX shaders.
