Description:

Alcon is seeking innovative AI-based digital solutions to assist Eye Care Professionals (ECPs), patients, and others in making data-driven decisions to enhance future results, such as lens selection and treatment support. Alcon currently operates an online contact lens (CL) ordering platform known as MARLO, housing information on patient CL purchases/orders, visits to ECP clinic offices, demographics, pre-exam questionnaire responses detailing unique lifestyles & expectations, and more.

Within this initiative, the R&D medical data scientist (MDS) team will collaborate with the vision care commercial/franchise teams to analyze MARLO datasets. Their goal is to create tools & hypotheses to assess their appeal to ECPs/patients, leveraging AI to enhance ECPs & patient journeys, uncover insights for product development, and design new MARLO digital tools for expanded functionality. Throughout this Proof of Concept (POC) project, the MDS team will present various AI models & solutions aimed at providing personalized CL recommendations, facilitating multifocal (MF) treatment decisions, and identifying new MF CL wearers suitable for fitting. Ultimately, the MDS team is expected to deliver AI models addressing critical use cases (e.g., lens selection, MF patient compatibility) and gather feedback on their accuracy & practicality from expert ECPs, internal stakeholders, and more.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields
  • Proficiency in Python programming and experience with data manipulation libraries (e.g. Pandas, NumPy)
  • Familiarity with AWS services, especially SageMaker, for machine learning model development and deployment
  • Experience in working with structured data and conducting data analysis
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and algorithms, with hands-on experience in model training and evaluation
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment
