What You'll Be Doing
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient Ruby code for new features and services.
  • Participate in code reviews and engage in pair programming sessions to uphold high code quality.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and address defects.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and specifications.
  • Own and manage the entire lifecycle of features, from conception through deployment, performance tuning, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the team to determine optimal work practices.
  • Take responsibility for all testing levels, including establishing best practices for unit, integration, system, and acceptance testing to ensure top-notch code quality.
What You Bring to the Role
  • Understanding and familiarity with backend technologies.
  • A foundational knowledge of Ruby.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or a similar MVC style framework.
  • Proficiency in relational database management systems and SQL.
  • Ambition and motivation to comprehend complex systems, focused on identifying and breaking down requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective expression and active listening.
  • Comfort with adopting new technologies and languages.
Nice to Have
  • Some exposure to Scala or a willingness to learn it.
  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Experience in front-end development with React.
  • Knowledge of working with Datadog.
  • Understanding of SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
Tech Stack
  • Most services at Zendesk are written in Ruby / Ruby On Rails, with some in Scala. Additionally, we utilize React and TypeScript for certain services.
  • We depend on various data stores such as MySQL, Memcached, Redis, Kafka, and DynamoDB.
