About the role: We're looking for a talented Staff Data Engineer who is excited to tackle large cross-functional problems and influence how teams across the company prioritize data as a part of their project lifecycles. This tenacious engineer will roll up their sleeves to revamp our data quality, supercharge our data analysis capabilities, and optimize data warehousing cost and runtime. An ideal candidate brings constant curiosity, a passion for data, and a deep understanding of the technologies behind data pipelines, warehousing, big data, and analytics. What will you do?

You'll strategize and iterate on the design of our database architecture, focusing on accuracy, scalability, reliability, usability, performance, and cost efficiency. You'll lead the design and implementation of robust and resilient data pipelines from a diverse set of source data by collaborating with product, engineering, and business stakeholders across multiple domains. You'll iterate and enforce data teams best practices in domain driven database design, ensuring data integrity, security, and optimal performance. You'll mentor data team members as the technical lead, give feedback for TDDs and review code.  You'll collaborate with and influence engineers to ensure quality data in source systems and fostering a culture of data excellence company wide.

We might be a match if you

Have 10+ years industry experience architecting and implementing large-scale enterprise data solutions, including 3+ years in Data Engineering technical leadership role.  Expertise in SQL and strong proficiency in at least one major development language (Python or JavaScript preferred).  Have a deep understanding and application of domain driven database design principles. Have an excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present complex technical ideas in simple terms.  Have a product mindset to understand business needs, continuously align on project outcomes, and implement scalable engineering solutions within committed timelines. Have a proven track record of solving complex data engineering challenges in multiple companies and many domains, employing innovative or novel solutions. Have an experience with cloud platforms (, AWS, GCP, Azure). Are a technical leader in the data space who questions the status quo, quickly identifies problems, and uses them to drive large-scale change.  Demonstrates ownership over data quality, bias towards action, impact, and developing systematic solutions.  Employs superior analytical, technical, and collaborative skills to lead groups of people in solving complex problems. Have a superior ability to independently translate business needs into clearly aligned project requirements, technical designs, and reliable project outcomes.  Focuses on the big picture and demonstrates good judgement, making technical trade-offs between short-term and long-term solutions.  Have a proven track record of mentorship of junior engineers and fostering a high performing team environment. Have a very good command of English (written & spoken). Are available in the afternoons - due to collaboration with the United States, evening meetings may occur. Rest assured, we prioritize work-life fit, respect everyone's private lives, and dont work at night but we still must ensure that communication between the time zones is effective. You will get extra points for: Experience with DBT, Airflow, Bigquery  Experience with Salesforce data or actuarial insurance.
