Our Client operates the electricity transmission system in the north and east of Germany, which it expands as needed for the energy transition. Their extra high voltage grid has an electrical circuit length of more than 10,600 kilometres, or the distance between Berlin and Rio de Janeiro.

You will take a part in The Transition Smart Energy Platform project aims to take over the existing software solution to receive, aggregate and

balance the data from an external vendor in a stepwise approach. While taking over the software the modules are separated, and the Twelve-Factor App principles are applied to realize a cloud-native application. The focus

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cloud Native Application Developer with a strong focus on Kubernetes to join the Smart Energy Platform (SXP) app development team. In this role, you will be responsible
for migrating, developing, and maintaining the code for app modules based on Cloud Native architectural principles.

Moreover, the app modules will be developed and deployed on Elia Digital Platform (EDP) which is the Elia group internal hybrid cloud platform that offers services to facilitate an end-to-end software development life cycle. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, migrate, and deploy various modules of the Smart Energy Platform, leveraging your expertise in Cloud Native technologies, DevOps practices, and observability tools.

You will report to the SXP team and work closely with:
- The SXP Engineering Team: Collaborate with development and QA team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- EDP Cloud Native Reference Architecture Team: Align on the prescribed best practices for Cloud Native application development on the Elia Group Digital Platform (EDP).
- Product Owners: Work with product owners responsible for the definition and evolution of SXP application modules under their responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
- Application Development: Develop Cloud Native applications with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Application Migration: Assist in the migration of existing applications from Openshift to indiEDP Kubernetes (RKE2) environments.
- Application Deployment: Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes clusters using Helm Charts and a GitOps workflow.
- DevOps & CI/CD: Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using CI/CD Tools. Promote DevOps best practices including GitOps, infrastructure as code, and automated testing.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop, migrate, and operationalize
modules of the Smart Energy Platform.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation using Confluence and manage project tasks and workflows using Jira.

your skills

  • A minimum experience of 5 years as a Cloud Native application developer.
  • Experience with rearchitecting existing monolithic architecture to micro-services based Cloud Native architecture.
  • Strong understanding of Cloud Native architectures (loosely coupled services, containers, horizontal scalability, application resilience patterns).

Proficiency in coding in Java
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in Java (11, 17, 21).
- Frameworks: Spring Boot, Quarkus
- Testing: Deep understanding of the testing pyramid – unit, integration, system, end-to-end, etc with experience in testing frameworks for Java such as JUnit4/5, Mockito, RestAssured, Wiremock, Testcontainers, DBUnit/Database-rider.
Security & Quality:

  • Strong experience with static code analysis and security scanning with tools such as SonarQube, AquaSec/Trivy or comparable
    Instrumenting for Observability: Experience with instrumenting the codebase for telemetry data (logs, metrics, traces) with frameworks such as OpenTelemetry.

CI/CD:

  • Strong experience developing CI/CD pipelines for applications for automated build-test-deploy workflows.
  • Experience in deploying non-breaking and changes for applications.

Data:

  • Experience building apps using data services such as relational and NoSQL databases, Kafka, and other message brokers. Ability to deploy non-breaking database changes.
    Good working knowledge of the following Tech Stack:
    - Database & Messaging: MySQL or PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis or Memcached, Kafka, Zookeeper.
    - Database change management: tools (such as Liquibase or Flyway)
    - Observability Tools: Grafana, Prometheus, Prometheus Pushgateway, InfluxDB, Alertmanager,
    - Applications resilience: frameworks (such as Resilience4j)
    - Additional Tools: Confluence, Jira.
    Proficiency in the following Tech Stack:
  • Deployment & Containerization: Docker/JIB, Kubernetes, Helm, OpenShift.
  • CI/CD & DevOps Tools: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitOps, Gitlab, Bash/Shell scripting, Linux
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Scrum, SAFE, JIRA, Confluence).
