Job Summary

The Engineer II performs complex engineering design review and analysis assignments, involving significant projects or multiple smaller projects. These tasks require the application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs detailed engineering review of plans for compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and contract commitments.
  • Offers technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
  • Solves moderately complex problems, such as conflicting design requirements, material standards, or coordinating activities among disciplines.
  • Proposes new approaches to problems and recommends changes in methods, procedures, or designs.
  • Drafts accurate and timely reports, responses to letters, faxes, and other forms of communication.
  • Communicates with clients to resolve technical expertise issues.
  • Prepares weekly reports and billing on work performed.
  • Updates team members on workload status to meet client needs.
  • Implements and maintains quality system requirements after training.
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software and experience with finite element method.
  • Five or more years of related engineering experience in shipyards, design/consulting offices, shipping/oil companies, or classification societies.
  • Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license with five or more years of experience.
  • Two years of experience as Engineer I.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Professional or chartered engineer license.
Reporting Relationships

The incumbent reports to a senior level engineer or technical manager.
