Manager Indirect Tax Reporting EMEA is responsible for driving the indirect tax compliance and reporting activities for the markets in scope of the position in EMEA (selected markets).

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Performance of VAT balance sheet accounts reconciliations and ensure accuracy in tax accounting for VAT (including the performance of the necessary tax accounting activities for VAT).
  • Timely and accurate preparation and submission of VAT returns and VAT related reports (e.g. EC Sales Lists, VAT Refund Claims, etc.) for the countries in scope in collaboration with external service provider (where applicable).
  • Oversee indirect tax compliance matters and perform control checks of transactional data impacting VAT returns and VAT related reports to identify any errors and anomalies.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that booking errors are properly corrected and remediation actions have been taken to minimize the likelihood of similar errors in the future.
  • Timely escalate errors and issues to the respective indirect tax responsible (e.g. Tax and Statutory Manager) and support him/her in the investigation of the root causes and remediation activities.
  • Prepares the annual VAT reconciliation of the respective Alcon entities (AFCM control) and ensures that such reconciliation is reviewed by the respective indirect tax responsible. Supports the local indirect tax responsible in the performance of other indirect tax AFCM controls, as necessary.
  • Assist with both external and internal VAT audit and reviews, ensuring all necessary information, documentation and reconciliations are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Pro-actively collects information on business activities performed by the respective Affiliates in scope and escalates any new or changes in existing activities to the respective indirect tax responsible.
  • Support cross-functional projects and where necessary, perform required testing of new or changes in existing system indirect tax set-up.
  • Independently cooperates with finance, business and other stakeholders by providing requested complete and correct data on time.
  • Ensure adherence to local and international tax rules applicable to the countries in scope and Global Indirect Tax and Company policies, procedures and controls.
  • Promote a strong control environment and follow up on audit issues and implement correcting measures.
  • Look for process improvements and support the implementation of such improvements in coordination with the Global Indirect Tax Team.
  • Actively collaborates with Business and Finance Functions working style being inclusive, proactive, respectful, and results driven in alignment with Alcon Values and Behaviours.
  • Act service oriented to enable service lines to deliver a high-performing organisation and contribute to improvements/standard solutions while cultivating a customer service focus culture.
  • Maintain strong communication with internal and external stakeholders to proactively address indirect tax-related issues.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • A degree in Accounting/Finance/Tax/Law or a related field with equivalent hands-on professional experience.
  • 5-6 years of experience in (indirect) tax compliance and reporting. Previous experience with indirect tax (compliance) management for multiple countries in EMEA will be considered as an advantage.
  • Experience working with multinational corporations.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of EU indirect rules and requirements, including all types of tax returns and obligations.
  • Practical knowledge of country specific indirect tax rules and requirements for the countries in scope will be considered as an advantage.
  • General theoretical knowledge/understanding of other taxes, different from VAT would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of IFRS (preferred)/accounting and reporting principles and financial controls impacting taxes.
  • Ability to support internal and external audits by ensuring accurate tax reporting and documentation.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills proven by previous work experience.
  • Ability to introduce and independently implement own ideas and process improvements.
  • Excellent organization and planning abilities to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to communicate tax concepts clearly and effectively to non-tax professionals.
