About The Role

A Senior Product Designer is an experienced design professional responsible for leading and executing complex design projects from ideation to launch, taking ownership of critical design components, and working to ensure all solutions align with user needs and business objectives. They demonstrate strategic thinking, excel in both UX and UI, and actively contribute to product direction by collaborating with cross-functional teams and advocating for user-centered solutions. Senior Product Designers also mentor junior designers, enhancing the team's skills and fostering a positive and high-quality design environment.

As a Senior Product Designer, one is expected to influence product direction, bring valuable insights into strategic discussions, and take initiative in identifying and solving key design challenges. They lead the design process, independently facilitate workshops, and work closely with product managers and engineers to ensure cohesive, effective design solutions. This level requires advanced design and research skills, thought leadership, and an ability to inspire innovation across the team.

Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Product Design: Contributing to and shaping product strategy by defining user experience goals and aligning them with broader business objectives.
  2. Research and Discovery: Conducting thorough discovery work, defining user needs and pain points, setting up and leading user interviews, and facilitating workshops with stakeholders.
  3. Data Analysis: Establishing UX metrics, analyzing user behavior data, and translating findings into actionable insights and design improvements.
  4. Information Architecture: Creating and optimizing complex user flows, journey maps, and structuring content to enhance the product experience.
  5. Concept Development: Proposing and refining design solutions through both low- and high-fidelity concepts, ensuring product consistency and alignment with brand identity.
  6. Prototyping and Validation: Developing prototypes for user testing, gathering feedback, and iterating designs to meet usability and functionality standards.
  7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with the Product Trio to influence business strategies, product roadmaps, and timelines, as well as facilitating team workshops.
  8. Engineering Collaboration: Validating designs with engineering, ensuring proper implementation, and upholding design integrity.
  9. Stakeholder Communication: Presenting design work to stakeholders, advocating for design strategy, and aligning on product vision and priorities.
Hard Skills

  1. User-Centered Design: Translating complex user pain points and business needs into impactful, intuitive design solutions.
  2. Advanced UX skills: Developing intricate user flows, journey maps, and detailed personas, with an emphasis on improving the product workflow.
  3. Advanced UI skills: Crafting high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes, utilizing a deep knowledge of design systems and tools.
  4. Conducting and leading advanced research: Planning, executing, and analyzing user research and usability studies, synthesizing insights to drive design decisions.
  5. Workshop facilitation: Leading design thinking sessions and collaborative workshops with minimal support, ensuring strategic alignment among stakeholders.

A Senior Product Designer at Sea requires a balance of deep technical expertise, strategic foresight, and the ability to drive team growth, influence product evolution, and inspire a strong, user-centered approach to design.
