What's the role?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineering manager to build and lead a new data engineering team focusing on GIS (Geographic Information System) data publication. The goal for this team will be to develop and operate a continuously running service that produces HERE content and location services and makes them accessible by Esri customers.

Your Responsibilities:

  1. Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing data engineering team
  2. Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide feedback, and support career development for team members
  3. Set up team processes and culture to deliver high-quality and on schedule/budget outcomes
  4. Collaborate with stakeholders (Product Mgmt, …) to define engineering roadmap and priorities
  5. Review and evaluate technical outcomes of the team (reviews of architecture, design, infrastructure, ..)
  6. Hands-on coding as required to support the team and ensure successful results
  7. Work with external partners as needed to deliver the overall solution and to accelerate our speed to deliver new data to customers

Team Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and operate data pipelines transforming HERE location data for consumption in GIS use cases
  2. Design and implement robust data transformation solutions for Esri customers
  3. Develop and optimize scripts and tools using tooling such as Python, ArcPy, GeoPandas
  4. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data transformations
  5. Collaborate with other teams, including external partners, to deliver the data to Esri customers
  6. Deploy and operate the pipelines to AWS using IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tooling
Who are you?

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Experience with GIS concepts, processes and tooling (ArcGIS)
  2. Experience working with location data (e.g. maps, addresses, POIs, etc. in various schemas (GeoJSON, FGDB, etc.)) and using packages such as ArcPy and GeoPandas
  3. Demonstrated expertise in Python programming, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code for complex systems and a deep understanding of advanced Python concepts (e.g., asynchronous programming, memory optimization, and design patterns)
  4. Experience with common data stores (relational databases, distributed databases)
  5. Experience with CI/CD systems such as GitLab, GitHub
  6. Experience with ETL processes and tooling (AWS Glue, FME, etc.)
  7. Strong leadership and team management skills
  8. Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  9. Proven experience in data transformation projects
  10. Strong communication and collaboration skills in English

Additional competencies:

  1. Familiarity with other GIS software and tools
  2. GISP certification
  3. Experience working with 3D content, such as 3D buildings
  4. Experience with cloud infrastructure, such as AWS or Azure
  5. Experience in web development scripting languages such as JavaScript
