Job Purpose

BorgWarner is seeking a Plant Product Engineer - Electrical to support global manufacturing plants in the resolution of complex production issues involving electrical hardware, power electronics, and component interactions.

This role serves as the primary technical interface between manufacturing operations and Product Engineering for electrical-related production concerns. The engineer will perform first-level engineering analysis, support containment activities, coordinate investigations, and help drive robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

The successful candidate will work closely with manufacturing, design engineering, validation, suppliers, and reliability teams to ensure rapid issue resolution and continuous improvement of product and process robustness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform first-level engineering analysis of production issues following initial manufacturing and CPE investigations.
  • Serve as the primary engineering interface between manufacturing plants and Product Engineering teams.
  • Analyze electrical behavior and performance under varying production, environmental, and system operating conditions.
  • Support rapid containment activities and recommend appropriate escalation paths for process, design, supplier, or mixed-origin issues.
  • Define, coordinate, and support Design of Experiments (DoE) activities to identify and isolate electrical contributors to failures.
  • Evaluate component variation, electrical tolerances, operating margins, and derating considerations.
  • Support investigation and resolution of issues involving:
    • Power semiconductors
    • Power supplies
    • Electronic control hardware
  • Collaborate with electrical design engineers, simulation specialists, EMC experts, validation teams, and reliability engineers.
  • Assess the impact of supplier changes, PCNs, obsolescence notifications, and alternative component sources on product performance and robustness.
  • Support root cause analyses using structured problem-solving methodologies, including 8D, DoE, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Document technical findings and communicate recommendations to global engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Drive incorporation of lessons learned into design guidelines, engineering standards, DFMEAs, and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving product quality, production efficiency, and reliability.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–8 years of experience in electrical engineering, power electronics, manufacturing support, product development, or related disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Electronic circuit behavior
    • Component variation and tolerance analysis
    • Electrical performance under real-world operating conditions
  • Experience with production testing, characterization, validation, or failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, and Design of Experiments.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and convert findings into practical manufacturing and engineering actions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional global teams.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple technical investigations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in automotive electronics or power electronics products.
  • Experience in Power electronics, hardware design, validation, test engineering, failure analysis, or manufacturing support
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations or production launch activities. Familiarity with semiconductor-based power conversion systems. Knowledge of automo
