Day in the Life of a Technical Writer at Fluke

Fluke is expanding its team in Wroclaw, Poland, to deliver its newest products. You will have the opportunity to cooperate with other team members in EMEA and US.

As a Technical Writer at Fluke, your day will involve working with cross-functional teams to create technical user documentation. You will manage the writing, translation, and release of documents, being an essential part of our program's lifecycle.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Collect and interpret engineering documents, product specifications, and marketing analyses.
  2. Write original copy in a clear, coherent, well-organized manner, using graphics, technical vocabulary and concepts that are appropriate to the product and familiar to the customer.
  3. Adhere to department standards and writing guidelines, including Simplified Technical English.
  4. Work with translation vendors to localize and translate manuals, reference guides, on-line help, and display screens for international markets.
  5. Assist in resolving technical, organizational, writing and publication problems, coordinate with editor and illustrators.
  6. Coordinate day-to-day activities to develop assigned user documentation.
  7. Work to established schedules to meet required deadlines.

Job Complexity:

  1. Work independently under moderate supervision.
  2. Conform to established practices and procedures. Errors may adversely affect company's customers and image and can cause shipment delays and impacts company financials.

Required Job Skills:

  1. Project management experience and solid writing skills.
  2. Technical background, and the capacity to master new technical information quickly.
  3. Proficiency in use of desktop publishing tools techniques and practices.
  4. Required familiarity with Adobe products including: FrameMaker, Illustrator, InDesign, and Distiller.
  5. Competency with MS Word.
  6. Experience with documenting hardware products.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Engineering, Journalism, English, or other writing intensive liberal art.
  2. 3-6 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
