Amazon's Alexa Data Services (ADS) organization is a pioneer in voice synthesis and recognition capabilities for Alexa, a cloud-based service that powers Echo devices. The company is constantly innovating, adding new features every hour, every day.

The Role

We're seeking a skilled German language data specialist to join our team of experts in building linguistic features and quality assurance capabilities. As a member of our team, you'll be responsible for:

  • Developing a deep understanding of labeling conventions and providing support to global sites.
  • Delivering high-quality data output within tight deadlines.
  • Working autonomously with minimal direction.
  • Handling unique data analysis requests from various internal customers.
  • Contributing to process improvements to reduce handling time and improve data output.
  • Diving deep into issues and implementing solutions independently.
  • Providing quality expertise to other team members and coaching improvements.
Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A degree in Linguistics, German language, Computational Linguistics, or equivalent practical experience in data mark-up.
  • Extensive experience with phonemic transcription in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and/or X-SAMPA.
  • Native level fluency in German.
  • Advanced level fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications

We're looking for candidates with additional skills in:

  • Experience with command line tools.
  • Competency in one or more non-English world languages (e.g., French, German, Spanish).
  • Experience working with interaction data, including annotation and other forms of data markup.
  • Practical knowledge of data processing needs and trade-offs.
  • Comfortable working with speech from various dialects and accents.
  • Willingness to work with audio content (wearing headsets) for a portion of the day.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment.
  • Capable of working in strict compliance with internal guidelines.
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and learn in-house user-interface tools.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Willingness to support several projects at once, and to accept reprioritization as necessary.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is approximately €50,000-€70,000 per year, depending on location and qualifications.
