Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of 4–5 engineers building a cutting-edge data collection platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in Java/Clojure development and excellent leadership skills.
The scope of responsibilities includes:
- Leading a high-performing team of software engineers, guiding them to achieve exceptional results.
- Taking a hands-on approach in the early project phase, solving technical challenges, writing code, and setting engineering standards.
- Building the team from scratch, hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and developing team members.
- Running regular 1:1s, providing feedback, fostering growth, and addressing interpersonal challenges within the team.
- Collaborating closely with other Managers to deliver value to the business.
- Communicating effectively across tech and non-tech stakeholders, translating business goals into technical outcomes.
The successful candidate will possess:
- 8+ years of experience in Java/Clojure development (experience in Clojure is not mandatory, Java engineers eager to learn Clojure are welcome to apply).
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and experience with tools like Kafka, SQS, PostgreSQL, S3, and AWS.
- Proven experience as a Technical/Team Leader or Engineering Manager, ideally in fast-paced, product-oriented environments.
- Strong track record in building and managing engineering teams from the ground up.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills – you care about people, not just code.
- Experience with 1:1s, performance feedback, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
A proactive mindset with a bias toward action and delivering results is essential. Excellent English communication skills are also required.
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of Go and JavaScript is advantageous.
