Job Title: Compute Platform Engineer II

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop scalable, secure, and efficient cloud infrastructure to support our business applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize technical requirements and implement solutions that meet business needs.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality code, ensuring robustness, scalability, and performance of our cloud-based systems.
  • Work closely with science users to understand their application scalability needs and provide expert guidance on software engineering, algorithms, and underlying hardware infrastructure.
  • Optimize design and execution of complex solutions within large-scale distributed computing environments.
  • Ensure consistent application of platform abstractions to ensure quality and consistency with respect to logging and lineage.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of our team's standards.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-4 years of experience building and testing software components that are robust, scalable, and operable, with strong experience within your area of specialty.
  • Knowledge and use of at least one common programming language, including toolchains for documentation, testing, and operations/observability.
  • Expertise in modern software development tools/ways of working, including git/GitHub, DevOps tools, metrics/monitoring, and cloud expertise.
  • Experience with CI/CD implementations using git and a common CI/CD stack, including Docker, Kubernetes, and the larger CNCF ecosystem.
  • Application experience of CI/CD implementations using git and a common CI/CD stack, including workflow orchestration with tools such as Argo Workflow, Airflow, and scientific workflow tools.
  • Experience with application performance tuning and optimization, including in parallel and distributed computing paradigms and communication libraries.
  • Demonstrated excellence with agile software development environments using tools like Jira and Confluence.
