We're looking for a highly skilled Senior C++ Backend Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our platform team, you will design and build the compute layer of our collaborative data operations platform.

About the Role

  • Design and implement features in our hybrid-query system, enabling seamless execution on local DuckDB instances or cloud data warehouses.
  • Become a DuckDB expert and share knowledge with other passionate engineers.
  • Collaborate with frontend and platform engineering teams to ensure our compute layer integrates smoothly with other parts of our system.
  • Optimize database performance, network throughput, and reliability to provide a smooth user experience.
  • Work closely with users to identify and resolve issues in your area of expertise.
  • Participate in code reviews, drive feature development, and contribute to engineering process improvements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help them grow.
  • Provide technical guidance and insights to product teams during feature design.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, focusing on backend development.
  • Solid experience designing and developing backend database systems, preferably for cloud-based applications.
  • Strong experience with C++ programming and libraries.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services and distributed computing concepts.
  • Familiarity with WebAssembly (Wasm).
  • Experience designing, scoping, and building larger features with the team.
  • Experience with big data technologies and data warehousing is a plus.
  • SQL databases like PostgreSQL and DuckDB are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of databases, query optimization, and data indexing is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving product needs.
  • Effective communication of technical concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this role is around $180,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
