Assistant Professor at University of Warsaw

We invite applications for the position of a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre of Migration Research, University of Warsaw for the research project 'UK2deport: New bordering of the UK: Post-Brexit deportability and governance of EU mobility'.

The recruited candidate will work in close liaison with the PI to enhance their publication record and methodological skills. The responsibilities of the post-doctoral researcher will include:

  1. Independent recruitment of research participants. Field research will include primarily 70 in-depth interviews with individuals who have been deported from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or whose return to their country of origin was organised and/or financed by a public institution (UK Home Office, local government) or a non-governmental institution;
  2. Preparation of the fieldwork in the UK, Lithuania, Poland and Romania;
  3. Fieldwork in the UK, Lithuania, Poland and Romania;
  4. Preparation of the collected data for analysis (transcription, pseudonymisation);
  5. Computer-assisted qualitative analysis of the data;
  6. Storage and sharing of data – preparation of interview data for archiving;
  7. Dissemination of project results;
  8. Weekly in-person project briefings in the CMR office in Warsaw;
  9. Preparation of publications.

Minimum requirements:

  1. PhD in one of the following disciplines: ethnology and cultural anthropology, culture and religion studies, socio-economic geography and spatial management, security studies, political and administrative sciences, law, sociology and history. Similar disciplines will be considered in case they are not listed in Polish higher education;
  2. Interest in the topic of the UK2deport research project;
  3. Fluency in English (C1 or C2 level; unless English is the mother tongue of the candidate, please provide a certificate);
  4. Documented at least good knowledge of qualitative research methods (in-depth interview and observation);
  5. Publication record in English.

According to NCN guidelines, to be eligible for the call, the candidate:

  1. Must have been awarded their PhD degree by an institution other than the University of Warsaw;
  2. Must have been awarded a PhD degree not earlier than 2018.
  3. During their employment in this research project will not be receiving any other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs;
  4. In the period of receiving the remuneration from the project, will not be receiving any remuneration from another employer (including one from abroad) under an employment contract.
