The Opportunity We seek a Senior / Lead HVDC Electrical Engineer - Technical Specialist / Project Leader to join our Energy and Infrastructure Team in Germany. The role is ideally based in one of our European or UK offices. With a growing energy portfolio, we have multiple openings for experienced electrical engineers in the transmission and distribution sectors. Our projects include HVAC and HVDC feasibility studies, FEED, project management, techno-economic assessments, and regulatory advice, focusing on offshore wind, interconnectors, energy, rail, utilities, data centers, and industrial facilities. Our team has a robust pipeline and diverse client base. We are expanding our teams across Europe and the UK, seeking highly capable HVDC engineers with strong technical skills and client-focused solutions. Responsibilities Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams to support T&D infrastructure projects. Lead design efforts for HVAC and HVDC packages from concept through construction and hand-over. Coordinate with stakeholders including disciplines, service providers, and clients. Present technical solutions to clients, contractors, and authorities. The Role Applicants should hold a qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar. The role involves working on bids and projects independently or as part of a team, including client-side projects. Relevant skills and experience include: Experience in power system consultancy for utilities and HVDC developers. Knowledge of European and international grid connection processes and Grid Codes. Project management skills. Extensive knowledge of HVDC technologies and converter station layouts. Experience with HVDC projects, including interconnectors and schemes. Candidate Requirements Electrical engineering / power systems qualification. Experience with power system analysis tools (PowerFactory, PSS/E, IPSA, etc.). Skills in DPL, Python, or other modeling languages. Experience with insulation coordination, protection settings, cable thermal ratings, transformer design, and system loss calculations. Why Arup?
