Principal Software Development Engineer

Position Overview Autodesk is seeking a Principal Software Development Engineer to play a key role in advancing Autodesk Revit, the world‑leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. In this position, you will contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of Revit, focusing on creating high‑quality software solutions for electrical system design and detailing. As a Principal Software Development Engineer, your work will have a direct and meaningful impact on the workflows of electrical engineering and detailing within Revit. The software you help build is essential to architects, engineers, and other professionals in the building industry, supporting the design of significant structures worldwide. From the tallest skyscrapers and largest airports to iconic landmarks, homes, and everyday businesses, Revit enables innovative design and construction projects across the globe. Revit’s engineering team brings intelligence and efficiency to the building design and development process by solving complex software problems. Your responsibilities will range across the stack as you work with the product owner, experienced designer, and other engineers to develop and maintain Revit. You will report to the Software Development Manager. The position is based in our Krakow office, employing a hybrid working model, and involves collaboration with globally dispersed stakeholders. Responsibilities: Design and develop new capabilities and improve existing code. Provide technical leadership and contribute to the architectural direction of the project. Apply good architectural practices including design patterns and object‑oriented programming concepts. Estimate and breakdown tasks for projects undertaken and ensure completion on time. Ensure code quality with peer code reviews and implement unit testing. Conduct research and make recommendations on tools and standards to use for engineering efforts. Document and present your ideas and solutions accurately and thoroughly. Communicate with the product owner, user experience designer and customers to understand requirements. Collaborate with the test engineer and/or domain expert to design and apply specific, more comprehensive testing plan. Lead technical efforts and coordinate with a software architect to ensure high‑quality code and architecture consistency. Assist and mentor junior team members. Collaborate with global stakeholders on technical strategy, issue solving, and dependency coordination. Contribute to processes and deliverables improvements that increase the team’s effectiveness and efficiency in responding to customer and business needs. Minimum Qualifications BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Architecture or related subject area. 8+ years’ experience in C++ and .NET/C# programming. Excellent debugging and refactoring skills. Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment with colleagues around the world. Excellent problem‑solving, 3D modeling, computer algorithm, and reasoning skills. Good teamwork spirit in a dynamic environment. Experience in fast‑paced product delivery and agile practices. Fluent in English (written & oral) and proactive communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with GIT or a similar source code revision control system. Knowledge of the AEC domain, AEC related product experience. Salary transparency Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location.
