Platform Engineering and Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) are transforming enterprise-scale DevOps and cloud adoption. At Kühne + Nagel, we are building our IDP into a strategic enabler for digital product development – supporting hundreds of applications across our global landscape. 

As Head of Platform Engineering for our Internal Developer Platform, you will drive the vision, development, and adoption of this foundational capability. You connect with internal development and service teams to understand their needs and support them in onboarding on the IDP. You lead the IDP core team of 3-5 senior cloud architects and engineers to grow and to operate a powerful foundation for product development in the cloud. 

The IDP team is part of our Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) which we call KN Cloud Office. Peer units include the Cloud Architecture Hub (Standards and Blueprints, Architecture Consulting), Cloud Value Engineering / FinOps and Cloud Community Hub. The scope of the IDP picks up from KN's cloud landing zones in AWS (focus), Azure and GCP and extends across all application and cloud service layers. 

You join as a member of our IT hub in Tallinn. You contribute to our distributed team across European IT hubs located in Hamburg (Germany) and Porto (Portugal) as well as with IT development and IT infrastructure teams around the world. 

• Own the product: Define and manage the roadmap, strategy, and lifecycle of the Internal Developer Platform. 
• Lead the team: Guide and grow a team of 3–5 senior cloud architects/engineers. 
• Drive adoption: Engage with internal teams to understand their needs and support onboarding to the IDP. 
• Ensure technical excellence: Maintain hands-on fluency in platform engineering and cloud-native technologies.

• Cloud-native expertise: Strong background in cloud engineering and application development. 
• Platform engineering mindset: Experience with abstractions, structuring complex topics, and building scalable platforms. 
• Communication skills: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences. 
• Leadership qualities: Proven experience in team building and management. 
• Hands-on with our tech stack: Terraform, Terragrunt, GitLab, ArgoCD, Kubernetes, Crossplane, Backstage. 
• Cloud proficiency: AWS (required), Azure and GCP (a plus). 
• Collaborative spirit: Advocate for inner-source contributions and open team culture. 
• Innovation-driven: Passion for continuous improvement balanced with enterprise-scale maturity.
