Role Overview

We are seeking a
Database Application Architect
to define how our engineering teams design, use, and scale PostgreSQL/AWS Aurora in highly demanding, real-time environments. This role is focused on how applications interact with the database—optimizing usage patterns, ensuring reliability, and guiding teams toward scalable design choices..

Please note that this role requires regular office work.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and own application-level database standards for PostgreSQL/Aurora, covering schema design, query strategies, and performance optimization for high-scale systems.
  • Advise product and engineering teams on indexing, query planning, and data-access abstractions to achieve consistently low-latency and resilient performance.
  • Work closely with backend, platform, and reliability engineers to architect durable data-access layers, reduce incident rates, and enhance system robustness.
  • Establish best practices for migrations, indexing, data lifecycle management, and application-side caching—supporting teams through thorough documentation and knowledge sharing.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL or AWS Aurora from a software-development perspective (query planning, transactions, tuning, relational modeling).
  • Demonstrated experience designing scalable data-access patterns and collaborating with engineers to create efficient, reliable database interactions.
  • Solid understanding of ORMs, caching approaches, and common pitfalls that impact performance or scalability.
  • Ability to diagnose production issues through analysis of access patterns, query loads, and bottlenecks in distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in a modern
    backend programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, or similar). - must have
  • Experience working with cloud-hosted datastores and managed database services, as well as monitoring and observability tools.
