To accelerate our innovation and redefine the standards of excellence in our industry, we are looking for a Senior Search Engineer to join our Search Team. This is a strategic role where you will act as a force multiplier, bringing specialized expertise in search systems to enhance our team's capabilities. We are looking for a hands-on engineer who is passionate about building production systems and thrives on optimizing every layer of the search stack—from low-level infrastructure to advanced ML-driven relevance.

What You'll Be Doing

• Own the Search Infrastructure: Architect and develop our next-generation search infrastructure. Become a to-go expert for all things search-related.
• Build for Speed & Scale: Design, build, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency APIs for search, retrieval and query processing. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of our products.
• Productionize ML for search: In close partnership with our ML engineers and data scientists, implement and productionize state-of-the-art query understanding and ranking models. Optimize pipelines for generating and serving semantic embeddings at scale, leveraging vector search and modern language models.
• Drive Engineering & Experimentation Velocity: Establish best practices for search development and testing. Build tools and processes that empower the team to experiment and innovate rapidly and safely.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization: Profile and optimize every component of the search stack, from indexing and query processing to model inference, ensuring maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate and Mentor: Work closely with product managers, engineers and data scientists to translate business needs into technical reality. Mentor team members, elevating their understanding of search systems and engineering best practices.
• Stay Ahead of the Curve: Actively evaluate emerging trends in ML, NLP, and Information Retrieval, prototyping new ideas to maintain our competitive edge.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on professional experience building and scaling production systems, with a deep focus on information retrieval.
• Deep, practical experience with modern search technologies. Hands-on experience working with and scaling vector databases
  (Vespa is preferred).
• Strong programming skills in
  Python.
  Practical experience with
  Java
  is a strong plus.
• Solid understanding of machine learning concepts applied to search (learning-to-rank, embeddings, language model quantization…).
• Experience in environments where search quality is measured through offline evaluation, human-in-the-loop systems, or content-based heuristics.
• Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills. You can break down complex, ambiguous problems into concrete, actionable steps.
• Clear, concise, and effective communication skills in English. You can articulate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Bonus Points:

• Direct, in-depth experience building and operating systems on Vespa.
• Experience in the financial data domain.
• Experience with MLOps tools and CI/CD pipelines in a cloud environment.
