DevOps Engineer

's DevOps team is looking for a software engineering-focused DevOps Engineer to help design and develop solutions that automate the provisioning and management of our infrastructure stacks across VMware, AWS, and Azure. You will work closely with Software Engineering to bring life safety and home automation applications to both on-premises and cloud environments, acting as a key liaison between DevOps, Software Engineering, and Operations. This role also works side-by-side with Engineering and Operations in all technical aspects of the cloud and applications with an ever-watchful eye on their availability, latency, performance, and capacity.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop tools and frameworks to enable continuous code integration and automated infrastructure management across all layers in the cloud – Servers, Storage, Network, Operating Systems, Management infrastructure, Applications, Monitoring, and Alerting.
• Write high-quality, structured code to support DevOps tasks and automation efforts.
• Work closely with various groups within Operations, Software Engineering, and Quality Engineering to drive efficiencies, including authoring runbooks and key alert metrics, and ensuring overall health and stability of monitoring.
• Develop a full understanding of the operation and architecture of the cloud and provide innovative solutions to increase reliability, performance, and predictability in operations.
• Evaluate, architect, implement, and migrate on-premises complex workloads to hyperscaler infrastructures – AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Build, manage, and maintain Kubernetes clusters, including underlying infrastructure and in-cluster apps/services.
• Troubleshoot issues and participate in on-call support, ensuring stability and performance of the production environment.
• Provide technical direction to Engineering teams on best practices for deploying software in the cloud.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance DevOps processes and practices.

Requirements:

• B.A. or B.S. (or higher level degree) in Computer Science or a similar engineering program with strong academic performance preferred.
• 2-3 years of related DevOps experience.
• Strong object-oriented programming skills; C# and .NET are a plus.
• Exemplary passion for automating complex processes and running Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with Cloud Platforms and virtualization technologies: VMware, Azure, AWS, GCP.
• Experience with Configuration Management and IaC tools such as: Ansible/AWX, Puppet, Terraform, Pulumi.
• Experience with Windows or Linux environments, including RedHat, Ubuntu, Windows Server.
• Experience with containerization concepts and technologies: Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), AKS, Rancher.
• Familiarity with Server Monitoring & Application Performance Monitoring solutions such as: PagerDuty, Wavefront, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Sumo Logic.
• Knowledge of automation frameworks and CI/CD tools such as: Bamboo, GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy, Jenkins, Atlassian, GIT, ArgoCD.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and individually within a team environment.
• Self-directed approach with a high degree of initiative to investigate and resolve issues.
• Willingness to participate in on-call duties as part of the role.

Nice To Haves:

• Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, applications, and services including IIS, SQL Server, PowerShell.
• Experience with capacity planning, code tuning, and working on a large platform.
