How do we work?

This role is for a visionary Senior Data Scientist who will act as a strategic partner across OANDA, transforming complex data into a competitive advantage. The position is a unique opportunity to build the next generation of AI-driven products and services, moving beyond traditional analytics to pioneer intelligent systems that will shape the future of the financial industry.

In this role, you will:

• Pioneer Intelligent Systems: Design, build, and deploy autonomous AI agents and sophisticated machine learning models to automate workflows and create new product features.

• Leverage Cutting-Edge AI: Fine-tune and implement large language models (LLMs) and advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems for natural language understanding and generation.

• Drive Strategic Impact: Translate complex business problems into clear analytical frameworks, delivering insights that directly optimize products and processes.

• End-to-End Ownership: Take full ownership of the entire machine learning lifecycle, from ideation and development to deployment and production monitoring.

• Uncover Actionable Insights: Dive into large datasets to identify hidden patterns and quantify opportunities through compelling visualizations and reports.

• Innovate and Elevate: Constantly research and implement state-of-the-art techniques to contribute to Oanda's long-term data strategy.

What skillset you need, to be successful in this role:

• Experience: A minimum of 4-5 years of commercial experience with a clear progression in project complexity and strategic impact.

• Technical Expertise: Deep expertise in Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn), Advanced SQL, and a strong understanding of various ML techniques and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow/PyTorch).

• Generative AI & LLMs: Hands-on experience with transformer architecture, prompt engineering, and building LLM applications and agentic AI using frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex.

• Cloud & MLOps: Proven experience with a major cloud platform (GCP preferred), with a deep understanding of the full MLOps lifecycle, including experiment tracking, CI/CD, model governance, and production monitoring.

• Data Storytelling: Proficiency with business intelligence (BI) platforms like Looker to translate findings into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences.

Nice to have:

• An advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative field.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform).

• Experience with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark).
