Chief Accountant

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to join our new Accounting Services Team in Kraków. This is a new role with great long-term career opportunities. In the future, as the team grows, the person in this role could take on the position of GL Manager.

This job is part of a big change project. You will report to the Head of Accounting Services EMEA and help move accounting processes from a new client to our Kraków office. Since we're just starting to build this structure, we need someone who enjoys working in a fast-changing environment and is ready to help set things up from the beginning.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee and coordinate daily operations of a small accounting team (3 specialists: AP, AR, and GL with VAT responsibilities)
• Supervise and support team members in all daily accounting tasks, including AP and AR processes (invoice processing, vendor/customer queries, reconciliations) and general ledger activities (including tax-related tasks)
• Take ownership of the month-end closing process to ensure accuracy and timeliness
• Serve as the main point of contact for the business on accounting-related matters
• Motivate, coach, and develop the team to drive performance and professional growth
• Actively participate in the transition of processes from the new client to Kraków
• Identify opportunities to standardize and improve processes across the team
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role, such as Chief Accountant or Independent Accountant.
• Strong knowledge of the International Financial Reporting Standards.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and best practices
• Proven experience in independently managing full accounting processes (GL ownership, month-end close, tax/VAT)
• Experience in managing or mentoring a small team is a strong advantage
• Experience in shared service environments or process transitions is a plus
• Good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with the business
• Proactive mindset with a focus on solutions and improvements
• Very good English skills (written and spoken)
• A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional qualifications
• Very good knowledge of Excel
• Experience working with SAP
