Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
IT Functional Lead
with expertise in
Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
and a strong background in
Warehouse and Distribution
operations. This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of TMS functionality, along with extensive knowledge of warehouse processes, inventory management, and distribution systems. As the IT Functional Lead, you will guide the integration of TMS, warehouse management, and distribution systems to optimize the flow of goods, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure seamless processes across the supply chain. You will collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional departments to drive technology solutions that support business needs and logistics operations.

What You'll Do
TMS Functional Leadership & Configuration

• TMS Design & Configuration: Lead the functional design, configuration, and optimization of the Transportation Management System (TMS), ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the business and integrates effectively with other supply chain systems.
• Business Requirements & Process Mapping: Collaborate with stakeholders in logistics, transportation, warehouse, and distribution teams to gather requirements and map business processes to TMS configurations and workflows.
• System Integration: Oversee the integration of TMS with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Distribution systems to ensure data consistency, visibility, and streamlined logistics processes.
• Optimization: Continuously optimize TMS functionality and workflows, including route planning, carrier selection, freight auditing, and shipment tracking, to improve transportation efficiency and reduce costs.

Warehouse & Distribution Systems Leadership

• Warehouse Process Expertise: Leverage experience in warehouse and distribution operations to ensure seamless integration between TMS and warehouse management systems (WMS), supporting efficient inventory management, order fulfillment, and warehouse operations.
• Distribution Network Optimization: Apply knowledge of distribution strategies to improve the flow of goods, optimize inventory levels, and enhance the speed and accuracy of order fulfillment through system integration and automation.
• Inventory Management: Ensure that TMS integrates with WMS to enable real-time tracking and accurate management of inventory across distribution centers and warehouses.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Leadership

• Stakeholder Management: Act as the main point of contact for business units (logistics, warehouse, distribution) to ensure that the TMS and related systems are effectively supporting business operations.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, supply chain, and logistics teams to design, develop, and deploy technology solutions that support both transportation and warehouse/distribution objectives.
• Vendor Management: Manage relationships with TMS, WMS, and 3PL vendors to ensure proper support, upgrades, and timely issue resolution.

Project Management & Implementation

• Lead TMS Implementation & Upgrades: Lead the implementation and configuration of new TMS, WMS, and distribution system capabilities, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives. Oversee system upgrades, enhancements, and migrations.
• Project Planning & Execution: Create detailed project plans for TMS and warehouse/distribution systems, ensuring all requirements are met within scope and timeline.
• Change Management & User Training: change management efforts, providing training, documentation, and support to ensure that warehouse, distribution, and transportation teams successfully adopt system changes.

Reporting, Data Analytics & Continuous Improvement

• Reporting & Analytics: Collaborate with business teams to develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards for both transportation and warehouse/distribution operations. Ensure that reporting delivers actionable insights to optimize logistics and warehouse performance.
• Data Integration & Accuracy: Ensure that real-time transportation data integrates seamlessly with warehouse systems, providing full visibility of inventory, order status, and shipment tracking.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvement initiatives within the TMS, WMS, and distribution systems, leveraging technology to reduce costs, improve service levels, and optimize operational efficiency.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Technical Support: Provide functional expertise and support to resolve issues within TMS, WMS, and distribution systems, collaborating with business teams to troubleshoot and find timely solutions.
• System Maintenance: Oversee the ongoing maintenance and optimization of TMS and WMS, ensuring that the systems are aligned with changing business needs and industry's best practices.

What You'll Bring
Education

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications in TMS (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, JDA), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), or Project Management (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are a plus.

Experience

• 7+ years of experience in IT with at least 3-5 years specifically focused on Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Warehouse/Distribution systems.
• Proven experience in warehouse operations, including inventory management, order fulfillment, and distribution network optimization.
• Hands-on experience with TMS solutions (e.g., SAP TM, Oracle Transportation Management, Manhattan TMS, JDA) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) (e.g., Manhattan Associates, Blue Yonder, SAP EWM).
• Experience in integrating TMS with WMS, ERP, and 3PL systems.

Skills & Competencies

• TMS & WMS Expertise: Strong understanding of TMS and WMS functions, including routing, carrier management, freight auditing, order fulfillment, and inventory tracking.
• Business Process Knowledge: Expertise in warehouse and distribution operations, logistics management, and supply chain optimization.
• Systems Integration: Experience in integrating TMS with WMS, ERP, and other supply chain systems using EDI, APIs, or other integration methodologies.
• Project Management: Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and manage cross-functional teams, ensuring timely delivery of TMS and WMS initiatives.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to evaluate logistics and warehouse data, define KPIs, and create actionable reports that optimize transportation and warehouse performance.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills with a focus on resolving issues related to TMS, WMS, and distribution system functionality.
• Communication & Leadership: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams and interact effectively with senior leadership.
• Change Management: Experience managing system changes, including training, user adoption, and system deployment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud-based TMS/WMS solutions or SaaS platforms.
• Familiarity with supply chain management principles and best practices, especially in the areas of transportation, warehouse, and distribution optimization.
• Knowledge of agile project management and agile methodologies.
