The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) is responsible for the diagnostic and repairs of military/civilian light, medium and heavy wheeled equipment. Works within a team of other mechanics and radar technicians. Troubleshoots malfunctions, and repair, rebuild and maintain heavy equipment. Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
- A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week).
- Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.
- Extensive use of basic shop equipment, disagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices.
- Steel Toe shoes are required.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to:Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices.
- Frequent use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD).
- Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
- Work will mostly be performed in a field maintenance environment inside a fabric maintenance facility. The facility is environmentally controlled, hours are generally 8/day x 5 days a week; however, overtime may be required given the gravity of the mission and schedule. Candidates must be flexible and committed to working the required hours to support this effort.
- Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
- Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Must be able to secure and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC),within three months of employment.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
- Must possess a valid State Driver's License.
- Applicant must furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties. Tools must meet the OSHA Regulations 1910 Subpar P.
- Three (3) to six (6) years of experience in wheeled equipment maintenance or equivalent.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
