The Role

As part of Imperial Brand’s companywide transformation, the company launched a multiple-scope Global Business Services organisation (“GBS”). As part of the functional operating models, GBS will deliver services around Finance, Data, IT and Procurement as well as a centralised approach to controls assurance across retained as well as shared service operations (including but not limited to GBS itself).

There has been a clear recognition by the Group’s Board that a robust and consistently applied internal control framework is essential to the success of the Group and as result we continue to strengthen our existing capabilities by establishing a dedicated Compliance Centre of Capability function as part of our wider GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) operating model.

The role will effectively stand-up an industrialised approach to internal control monitoring, testing and reporting at different organisational levels to provide appropriate comfort over control design and operating effectiveness by providing consistent and comprehensive assurance over key operational and compliance risks through performing control testing (or overseeing testing by others)  as well as consistently and efficiently executing control monitoring activities (e.g. continuous auditing).

The GBS Compliance Tower Lead is a member of the GBS Leadership team, as well as the Group’s Integrated Assurance Forum, responsible for ensuring robust internal control assurance processes are in place over financial and non-financial risks and related key control solutions / risk mitigations.

The role is based in Krakow with occasional travelling to Head Office (around 10 – 20%).

 

Principle Accountabilities

Strategic Direction

  • Provide thought leadership to the GBS senior management and wider GRC community in terms of good practice assurance approaches over internal control frameworks.
  • Represent GBS at key Governance, Risk and Control forums.
  • Build effective relationships with senior management across GBS & outsourced service providers, and act as the GBS interface for other internal and external assurance providers.

People Management

  • Recruit, manage and develop a team of highly skilled compliance specialists and analysts within all aspects of operational & compliance risk across financial and non-financial process areas.
  • Establish appropriate succession planning and career development within the team.

Compliance Delivery

  • Set the annual budgets and targets for the GBS Compliance delivery and work with the Integrated Assurance Forum and GBS Leadership to align.
  • Define the compliance testing methodologies, approaches and annual compliance testing programme over both retained and GBS operations, in line with instruction from the Integrated Assurance Forum, and ensure all GBS Compliance activities (control testing, monitoring and related results reporting) are performed in full, on time and within budget.
  • Provide relevant and insightful reporting to GBS management and clients in terms of the level of compliance achieved, remedial actions being put in place and any mitigation to address identified risk exposures
  • Continuously improve the Group’s internal control framework through engaging with Global Risk & Internal Control (GRIC) on any identified control design weaknesses so that these can be addressed in a timely manner by GRIC.

GBS Leadership

  • Work together with the other GBS Tower Leads on horizontal and/or GBS improvement/growth plans.
  • Act as site risk and compliance manager to facilitate GBS centric risk assessment and internal audit activities.
  • Provide recommendations to GBS Director and GBS Leadership team to keep them aware of developments within the local industry.

 

Skills and Experience Required

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent international qualification)
  • Extensive experience within similar internal control or compliance roles with track record of establishing well controlled organisations.
  • Ability to lead across large, complex and global corporate network, partnering & delivering effectively with other teams globally.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting standards/principles as well tax and statutory reporting.
  • Strong experience with automated control testing and monitoring technologies (e.g. SAP GRC, RPA, AuditBoard, etc).
  • Next to Polish language, fluent business English in reading and writing.
  • Excellent relationship building experience, influencing skills, and experience of working with senior level managers/executives across a large, complex, matrix organisation.
