The Software Vulnerability ML Engineer is responsible for improving analysis of possible software defects and vulnerabilities through the application of machine learning to complex applications using available security – relevant data.
They should possess a solid background in ML and be experienced in data visualization for conveying analytic results to partners at varying levels of technical capability. Furthermore, since this person will be embedded in a team of Security Engineers, he / she should be familiar with programming best practices (DevOps, Agile, Git, Object oriented programming).
Ideally this person will also be familiar with multiple information security domains, including vulnerability management. The ideal candidate is a self – starter that assists the organization in determining new applications of vulnerability analytics and recommends new sources of data, tools, and techniques to meet needs of the organization. In this role, the candidate will need to deep dive into networking and security infrastructure, along and is expected to become an expert to combine this domain knowledge with ML to improve existing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Applying software vulnerability knowledge to build, deploy, and operationalize analytics that identify significant threats using multiple internal and external data sources
  • Applying data science techniques, including neural networks, time – series analysis, solving classification – type problems
  • Being able to determine the "right technique for the problem"
  • Supporting the team in deploying the solutions implemented at scale
  • Detailing analytic capabilities to support the ease of understanding the model by non – technical and technical stakeholders
  • Providing mentoring to information security personnel to grow and mature the workforce's ability in working with Big Data for numerous analytical needs
  • Recommending new tools, data sources, and techniques to advance vulnerability and penetration testing analytics capabilities and assisting with their integration
  • Integrating analytical model outputs with available means of automation, including the collection and application of feedback
  • Closely coordinating and supporting other information security teams and the software development teams

Requirements:
  • Masters with 5+ years of experience and Bachelor with 7+ years of experience in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields
  • 4+ years of hands on experience in languages such as Java or Python and SQL
  • 3+ years of hands on experience on Big Data / Machine Learning services on cloud providers such as AWS or GCP
  • Experience working in a cross – disciplinary analytic team
  • Self – starter, self – motivated, and able to work independently with little oversight
  • Experience working with Advanced SQL, Google Cloud (Big Query, Spanner, Looker), RegX is preferred
  • Understanding of secure coding practices such as OWASP Top 10
  • Understanding of technology systems such as networks, applications, servers, cloud, authentication, and new technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Desired:
  • Experience working with information security teams such as fusion centers, security operations centers, vulnerability assessment, vulnerability threat management, security incident management, cyber "hunt," and big data analysis
  • Experience working in a diverse set of platforms to build, deploy, and operationalize software vulnerability analytics (ideally including security tools)
