Shipping supervisor

You will be leading a highly dedicated and professional team, which is responsible ensuring timely shipping of our trailers in most optimal and cost-effective routing. You will be working alongside your team, which consists of experienced Shipping Planners and Assistant Shipping Planners. By teaming up with internal and external shipping suppliers, and other operational and supportive departments within the organisation, an efficient and compliant shipping process is being achieved with the shared aim of achieving the very best for our customers and shareholders.

As Shipping Supervisor you will be responsible for coordinating the employees of the Katowice based shipping department, ensuring trailers are routed in most cost-effective manner within the given customer requirements and to set priority in operational decision-making.

You will also be responsible for maintaining a correct and timely flow of communication between employees/ systems and ferry suppliers, customs authorities, and colleagues from other department; all in order to achieve optimal performance and maximum return.

You will be a part of a team of more Shipping Supervisors across the organization to build up a best practice culture and to ensure close coordination and collaboration.

In order to maintain a correct and timely flow of information and communication, in this position you might be working in alternating shifts from Monday to Friday between 7.00 and 23.00 hours, and you participate as part of the team in a rotation schedule for (limited) duties in weekends and bank holidays.

• To coordinate, coach and motivate the employees of the shipping department;
• To ensure a fair and equal spread of work across the shipping team;
• To assist Management an in daily assignments and tasks;
• To ensure pro-active communication of bottle-necks regarding capacity or service levels;
• To ensure the team provides additional care to shipment of orders related to ADR / IMDG, customs clearance, waste and temperature control;
• To ensure optimal planning decisions (for the totality of the order book) are made, taking into consideration, available capacity, quality of service, safety and cost such as empty kilometres and optimal routing;
• To maintain good relationships with shipping suppliers and other relevant external stakeholders;
• To maintain legal / procedural compliance at all times;
• To facilitate optimal cooperation / communication with the customer service / planning departments, with the aim to understand and meet or exceed the customer needs in best possible way;
• To drive value for our shareholder P&O Ferries, by prioritising shipping of trailers on P&O Ferries routes where economically viable and when service requirements from customers allow;
• To actively identify, share, and/or adopt best practises from the other ship/rail departments in the container products. Embrace change for the better of the process.

As Shipping Supervisor you take responsibility and possess excellent leadership and coordinating skills. So you:

• Are educated to a minimum of Bachelor-level or equivalent (preferably in logistics);
• Have a minimum of 3 years' experience in a planning (or similar) role within the logistics industry;
• Have good command of English language;
• Are IT literate and are a quick learner when it comes to new systems;
• Have strong communication skills;
• Are a team player; acting in collaborative spirit;
• Have your own transportation because our location is not accessible by public transport;
• Make complex matters look simple;
• Have ability to balance priorities in a fast-moving environment.
