About the role:

As a Staff Engineer at Samsara, you will lead the Platform team in developing foundational systems that drive our software products. This includes Alerts, Workflows, Notifications, Reports, User Management, Roles and Permissions, Geo Services, Billing, and Invoice. We are seeking a Staff Engineer to steer the technical direction of the team, bringing fresh ideas and expertise to guide technical design and architecture, enabling the implementation of complex features and customer use cases.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving technology decisions and implementing solutions with a lasting impact on Samsara's platform.
  • Identifying opportunities to influence platform technology and engineering culture.
  • Leading the development of software that supports Samsara's scalability.
  • Guiding teams in delivering products that enhance Samsara's offerings and revenue.
  • Solving complex technical challenges to expedite product launches with quality.
  • Collaborating with infrastructure and product teams to build innovative solutions.
  • Acting as a catalyst within the team, amplifying the impact of every member.
  • Representing Samsara in external forums to showcase the company's engineering excellence.
  • Championing Samsara's cultural principles and promoting diversity as we expand globally.

Minimum requirements for this role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in software development, with 2 years in an architect or leadership position
  • Strong programming fundamentals
  • Experience in building large-scale distributed systems and leading cross-organization projects

An ideal candidate will also have:

  • Expertise in data modeling and full-stack application architecture at scale
  • Proficiency in languages like Go, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C/C++, or similar
  • Production experience in Javascript and/or client-side development
  • Experience with large-scale enterprise software applications and stream processing decision engines
