The Role

The Lighter is a skilled artist responsible for creating high-quality light rigs, look development, scene building, and shot lighting. They need to showcase creativity, understand visual storytelling, and grasp cinematography basics like light, shadow, depth of field, framing, composition, and mood. This role demands creating top-notch work independently and thriving in a supportive environment that fosters training and collaboration among artists.

The Lighter collaborates on asset building, shot execution, and enhances workflows to streamline scene building and lighting processes. By using best practices, they develop shading networks, light rigs, render layers, and lightcomps efficiently. Cooperation with other CG department artists is vital for seamless workflow, even across global offices. The Lighter might lead the lighting process, ensuring consistent quality across projects.

Experience in real-time engines like Unreal Engine, Unity, and Frostbite is a plus.

Works With: Directors, Creative Directors, CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, HODs, Artists, Producers, and Coordinators

Responsibilities:

  • Efficient work in a fast-paced environment
  • Creating HDRIs, light rigs, and lightcomps
  • Lighting and rendering CG for advertising and digital projects
  • Collaborating closely with other artists at various locations
  • Partaking in generalist CG work when required
  • Supervising and mentoring junior artists
  • Assisting in project breakdown and bidding
  • Ensuring deliverables meet project needs

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • Proactive and creative problem solver
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in Lighting and Rendering CG
  • Proficiency in Maya, Houdini, Arnold, Nuke
  • Understanding of VFX lighting pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Generalist CG/VFX skills are a bonus
  • Strong time and project management
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems
