The European Border and Coast Guard Agency supports EU Member States and Schengen-associated countries in the management of the EU's external borders and the fight against cross-border crime.Our expectationsAt least 8 years of relevant professional IT experienceMinimum 5 years of proven project experience in a similar position or profileMaster’s degree or 5 years of higher educationMinimum B2 level proficiency in English (certification is an advantage)At least two of the following certifications:Master level certificate in architecting software solutions (e.g. TOGAF Certified)Certified UML Professional certificate at foundation levelor equivalent certifications recognized internationallyProven experience as a key architect in the development of at least two software systemsStrong background in designing enterprise level software systems including capacity and security planningDeep technical knowledge of databases, application servers, communication middleware, web servers, GIS services, directory services, Microsoft-based security, business intelligence concepts, system integration and IDEsProficiency in UML-based designStrong understanding of software development methodologies and lifecycles, including RUP, ISO12207 and agile methodologiesProficiency with modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect, ARIS Architect or similar solutionsPractical experience designing and developing large-scale microservices-based systemsHands-on experience with large knowledge systems and .NET-based custom solutionsPractical experience with Kafka, SQL Server, Redis, OpenShift/Kubernetes and Azure DevOpsPractical experience with Microsoft Azure services and solutionsExcellent communication, documentation and problem-solving skillsMain responsibilitiesSet and uphold standards for system design, development, testing and overall qualityDesign, document and communicate system architecture across teams and stakeholdersDefine system interoperability and interfaces with external and internal systemsElicit needs and analyse business, user and technical requirementsTranslate business goals and technical expectations into coherent architectural solutionsMap project objectives, priorities, system components and required featuresAnalyse existing systems and identify feasible solution optionsMaintain, monitor and evolve architecture throughout the system lifecycleEstimate and size software development workContribute to system design, testing, quality assurance and change management processesPrepare system documentation and deliver architectural presentationsLead development teams and support development processesSelect, evaluate and recommend appropriate technologiesCollect and interpret system metrics to guide technical decisionsOptimise systems for performance, security and overall quality
