Job Description

Zendesk is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join The Data Platform team. This team is responsible for building a globally distributed system using powerful cloud technologies across Amazon Web Services. The main objective is to help over 170,000 global businesses gain a deep understanding of customer interactions like never before.

As a Senior Data Engineer on Foundation Analytics, your role involves developing various key aspects of the foundation data services platform, including advanced reporting and analytics. You will collaborate closely with team members to create, build, and deliver reporting products for customers and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality software projects.

Data plays a crucial role in Zendesk's operations. This position is autonomous and can have a significant impact across all Zendesk product lines.

Responsibilities:
  • Publish well-written and tested code for production
  • Participate in designing and implementing key features of the data platform
  • Investigate production issues and optimize data pipelines
  • Enhance data pipelines for improved efficiency, throughput, and data quality
  • Build a platform that will support customer-facing reporting features, machine learning initiatives, and internal product analytics
  • Collaborate with team members to research and explore different solutions for technical challenges
  • Solve complex problems with enthusiasm and technical leadership, contributing to innovative solutions
  • Establish best practices and mentor others in making technical decisions
Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of software development/data engineering experience, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in building scalable data platforms and reliable data pipelines
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, or Scala
  • Demonstrated developer skills with a focus on designing scalable and fault-tolerant software systems
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud technologies
  • Experience in managing high-volume, high-availability environments
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes infrastructure and security best practices
  • Ability to excel in a dynamic, occasionally interrupt-driven environment with geographically dispersed teams and customers
  • Solid understanding of Data Modeling
  • Proven track record with cloud and data technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in writing ETL jobs to tackle various data engineering challenges
  • Strong familiarity with Build and Deployment tools
  • Knowledge of Kafka, Flink, Spark frameworks, and proficiency in at least one job scheduling tool: Airflow, Celery, AWS Step functions
Tech Stack:
  • Our data pipelines are mainly written in Java and Python based software stacks
  • We utilize various open-source technologies such as Spark, Flink, Hudi, Airflow
  • Our software operates on AWS services like EMR and Kubernetes, integrating with AWS services S3, Athena, and Glue for data accessibility
