Job Description

Zendesk is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join The Data Platform team. The team is in charge of implementing a globally distributed system using powerful cloud technologies across Amazon Web Services. The main objective is to help over 170,000 global businesses gain a deep understanding of customer interactions like never before.

As a Senior Data Engineer on Foundation Analytics, you will play a key role in building various components of the foundation data services platform, including next-generation reporting and analytics. Collaborating closely with team members to create, develop, and deliver reporting products for our customers and high-quality software projects on schedule.

Data is crucial for Zendesk's operations. This is an independent role that can significantly impact all of Zendesk's product range.

Responsibilities
  • Publish well-written and tested code to production
  • Participate in designing and developing essential features and functionalities of our data platform
  • Investigate and optimize our data pipelines for production issues
  • Enhance data pipelines for increased efficiency, throughput, and data quality
  • Construct a platform that will serve as the foundation for customer-facing reporting features, machine learning projects, and internal product analytics
  • Engage in research and brainstorming with team members to tackle technical challenges
  • Solve complex problems with enthusiasm and technical expertise, contributing to innovative solutions for intricate issues
  • Develop best practices and mentor others in making technical decisions on projects
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Over 7 years of software development/data engineering experience, with more than 3 years of practical experience in building scalable data platforms and/or reliable data pipelines
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, or Scala (at least one)
  • Strong developer skills, showing a keen interest in designing scalable and fault-tolerant software systems
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or similar cloud technologies
  • Experience in developing and managing high-volume, high-availability environments
  • Adept understanding of Kubernetes infrastructure and security best practices
  • Ability to perform effectively in a diverse, occasionally interrupt-driven environment involving globally dispersed teams and customers
  • Solid grasp of Data Modeling concepts
  • Proven track record with cloud and data technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating ETL jobs to tackle various data engineering challenges
  • Thorough understanding of Build and Deployment tools
  • Familiarity with Kafka, Flink, Spark frameworks, and proficiency in at least one job scheduling tool: Airflow, Celery, AWS Step functions
Technology Stack
  • Our data pipelines are Java and Python-based
  • We utilize various open-source technologies such as Spark, Flink, Hudi, and Airflow
  • Our software operates on AWS services like EMR and Kubernetes, integrating with AWS services S3, Athena, and Glue for data accessibility
