Zendesk Explore stands out as our cutting-edge analytics product. As a sophisticated business intelligence tool, it caters to a vast client base of 100,000 users, leveraging data from over 500 million Zendesk platform users and connecting with more than 40 external data sources. Explore plays a crucial role in handling massive volumes of data from the Zendesk product suite, enabling quick querying and visualization at a large scale.

We are currently seeking a dedicated Senior Software Engineer to join our team and elevate Zendesk products to new heights in terms of features, dependability, and scalability. This role focuses on enhancing our Explore analytics data engine and data storage systems. You will bring your expertise, experience, insights, perseverance, and dedication to collaborate with the team in maintaining and enhancing the product to meet the evolving demands of our customers.

What you'll work on daily:

  • Establish and manage data pipeline architecture and efficient data storage systems
  • Take charge of the entire release process from development to deployment
  • Identify, create, and implement internal process enhancements, including automating manual tasks, optimizing data delivery, and revamping infrastructure for better scalability
  • Develop the necessary infrastructure for effective data extraction, transformation, and loading from a wide array of data sources using AWS 'big data' technologies
  • Create analytics tools that leverage the data pipeline to offer actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other critical business metrics
  • Actively contribute to refining our infrastructure, code, and workflows
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders such as Engineering, Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams to address technical data-related issues and cater to their data infrastructure requirements

Your qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience as a backend software developer, with 1 to 2 years specifically in data pipelines or big data environments
  • Proficient in working with relational databases and crafting and analyzing SQL queries
  • Expertise in a strongly typed programming language like Java or Scala
  • Experience in building large, highly scalable, distributed systems capable of handling substantial traffic volumes
  • Skilled in conducting root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to address specific business queries and identify enhancement opportunities
  • Experience with developing and maintaining systems on AWS cloud services such as EMR, ECS, S3, and RDS, or similar tools on other cloud platforms

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience with the Scala programming language
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL or Redshift databases
  • Experience in managing cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform
