Manager of Generation and Heat Software

Generation and Heat Software (YIPCC) team is established as a result of Vattenfall IT 7.0 “LevelUp” Wave 2. In principle the unit will work as a front-door for software development requests towards BA Generation and BA Heat. At the same time the N4 team is a home base for several DevOps Squads delivering non-commodity unique software to all Asset Driven BAs. Coming demands are matched with the Squad within whole N3 department based on competence needed, availability and experience in the business domain. The newly created team will be reporting within Asset Software Engineering (YIPC) domain. Employees and consultants in the team are going to be moved from current YIPCA (Wind and Nuclear Software) and YIPCB (Distribution and R&D Software) teams, where this responsibility previously resided. Team will count 11 internal employees and 2 DevOps Squads at start date. 

Team Manager will be responsible for end-2-end delivery of assigned software solutions (from requirements management to maintenance). There will be a total of around 15 products and projects (ongoing products developments) assigned to the team as start. 

A newly recruited leader will be playing a role of entry point for software engineering requests coming towards Asset IT from BA Generation and Heat.

On top of that responsible person will focus on: 

• skills development of the assigned squads and performance management. 
• managing and optimizing the balance between project demands and available competences to achieve financial targets.
• ensuring quality and timely delivery.

This position has an international scope (employees are located in Poland, consultants might be located in other Vattenfall countries) therefore some traveling is required. 
 
What will you do? 
 
Your tasks and responsibilities: 

• Managing and motivating assigned employees and consultants working within your DevOps Squads (software engineers, scrum masters).
• Ensuring that the team has right people, skills and capacity fitting the current and planned deliveries (aligned with your peer managers in Asset Software Engineering department).
• Effectively collaborating with business stakeholders to design, align, commit and deliver highest quality software engineering services and products.
• Knowing products in your portfolio and business processes behind them.
• Being responsible for the designs of new potential products.
• Balancing capacity and delivery needs through a combination of offering, assignments management, hiring, consultant sourcing, onboarding and personal development.
• Effectively staffing squads and assigning products and projects in most efficient way.
• Collaborating with your peers within Asset Software Engineering and Asset IT to reach the department goals.
• Developing technology stack used for the delivery in responsible way, enabling growth of individuals and teams as well as ensuring development and maintainability in a long-term.
• Ensuring right leadership for mainly agile software delivery projects (seldom waterfall).
• Overseeing software design, delivery and support phases to ensure high quality of services.
• Personnel development and recruitment in accordance with the HR process.
• Preparation of personnel resource planning (FTE and FTC).  
• Monitoring workload and motivation of the team members.  
• Coordinating the competence assignments to projects.
• Managing financial aspects of the team (OH, Projects and SLAs assigned). Business plan vs forecasting and actuals are reported do N-3 level.

Your profile

As our Manager Generation and Heat Software you:

• Hold academic degree in engineering or business administration.
• Have minimum of 4 years’ experience in managing team or project / agile team with proven successful track record. 
• Have significant experiences in Agile methods and principles, as an Agile coach, Scrum master or similar.
• Possess strong management and communication skills; you are a problem solver, and your collaboration skills ensure effective collaboration with business leaders/stakeholders.
• Demonstrate ability to work independently, to take initiative and to follow-through. 
• Have perfect command of the English language - it is needed to be successful in this job (Swedish or German language will be an advantage).
• Are practitioner in software engineering, minimum 5 years’ experience (you are familiar with tools and techniques to build software products based on cloud and on-premise environments).
• Have the skill to efficiently split big goals to smaller operational tasks and then compile results into “bigger picture.” 
• Are result oriented with a strong drive to reach targets by organizing own and teams’ work.
• Have hands on personality with proven experience in requirements management, corresponding methodologies and software design (ability to show your achievements and designs will be an advantage).
