The Junior Database Administrator – SQL Server is a key role for delivering Database Administration services for SQL Server Environments at Westinghouse. The primary area of responsibility for this position will be a working database administrator and requires significant technical expertise in designing, building, tuning, installing, configuring, troubleshooting and management of databases for SQL Server.
This position will include (but are not limited to) the following standard DBA tasks:
Reviews, tests, recommends and installs upgrades of database software, including patches and major releases Performs database backup and recovery as required, including periodic testing Upgrade, configure and maintain server and database monitoring software to baseline system performance and proactively identify (and remedy) potential issues. Resource monitoring and capacity planning. Review, test, update and document detailed disaster recovery/business continuity plans for key production servers Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers Create documentation for all procedures and systems. Enrolling users and maintaining system security, controlling and monitoring user access to the database The primary duties of this position occur during business hours, however there is some evening and weekend work related to projects, planned maintenance, and on-call supportRequirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or related field 1+ years of proven support in a complex SQL Server database environments Experience with SQL Server standalone and clustered environments Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems. Proven experience executing all areas of database administration on current technologies Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for critical database, networking and system administration issues Critical thinking skills, ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions Ability to handle diverse situations and rapidly changing priorities with deadlines Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work effectively under pressure and with a high degree of independence. Effective in meeting deadlines. Ability to fully document technical design and related project or systems-level documentation Ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, and management to troubleshoot issues, develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in Must have professional demeanor, positive attitude, and excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills in the English language Works with minimal supervision and receives general direction from the Database Administrator Lead Must be able to work independently or in teams on assigned tasks with a high degree of technical judgment Professional experience with additional DBA responsibilities in non-Oracle platforms (SQL Server, etc.) Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL platformsOffer:
