The Database Administrator SQL Server is a key role for delivering database administration services to our organization. The primary area of responsibility for this position involves working as a database administrator and requires significant technical expertise in designing, building, tuning, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and managing databases for SQL Server.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, tests, recommends, and installs upgrades of database software, including patches and major releases.
  • Performs database backup and recovery as required, including periodic testing.
  • Upgrades, configures, and maintains server and database monitoring software to baseline system performance and proactively identifies potential issues that need to be remedied.
  • Reviews, tests, updates, and documents detailed disaster recovery/business continuity plans for key production servers.
  • Modifies the database structure, as necessary, based on information provided by application developers.
  • Creates documentation for all procedures and systems.
  • Ensures system security by enrolling users, maintaining user access control, and monitoring database activity.
  • This position primarily works during business hours but may require evening and weekend work for projects, planned maintenance, and on-call support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience supporting complex SQL Server database environments.
  • Experience working with standalone and clustered SQL Server environments.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Proven ability to execute all areas of database administration using current technologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for critical database, networking, and system administration issues.
  • Critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze information accurately and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to handle diverse situations and rapidly changing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Effective prioritization of workload and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong documentation skills, with the ability to create clear and concise technical design documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and collaborate with clients, peers, and management to resolve issues and develop solutions.
