Job Summary:

Maintains and repairs equipment, vehicles, and/or facilities used for carrying out the operations.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams.
  2. Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies.
  3. Use diagnostic equipment, visual inspection, and other tools to diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs.
  4. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  5. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  6. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  7. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure accurate performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  8. Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings as necessary in order to accurately operate equipment.
  9. Install new ignition systems, change/charge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts.
  10. Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and make adjustments.
  11. Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  12. Fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
  13. Maintain clean tools and working area.
  14. Perform high and low voltage electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
  15. Perform other routine duties such as building maintenance, equipment hauling, and equipment operation.
Education:
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  2. Certificate in Diesel Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  3. ASE Certification preferred.
  4. Valid driver's license; required to maintain acceptable driving record.
  5. DOT Medical Examiner Certificate and/or ability to obtain required.
  6. Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) preferred.
Skills:
  1. 3 or more years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic preferred.
  2. Experience performing U.S. DOT vehicle and brake inspections and adjustments preferred.
  3. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  4. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  5. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  6. Basic computer skills, including ability to operate mobile devices (phone, tablet, etc.) and related applications.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  2. Must maintain and provide basic tooling required for position; specialty tooling provided by the Company.
  3. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  4. Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile devices.
  5. Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity.
  6. Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  7. Standing/working on feet for long periods (8 hours or more), and walking across uneven terrain.
  8. Frequently exposed to loud noise produced by machinery and equipment.
  9. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  10. Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes, chemicals, or airborne particles.
