The Opportunity:

We are looking for versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.

The Work itself:

  • Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa's internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on project requirements, incorporate feedback, guide juniors, verify assumptions, escalate design issues, clarify timelines, understand team's solutions, and communicate potential risks.
  • Design product components following guidance, refine code plans, contribute to design documentation, and understand non-functional requirements using provided designs.
  • Participate in project estimation, escalate potential delays, and collaborate with team members for solution delivery.
  • Mentor others, develop maintainable code for a product, apply coding and security best practices, use debugging tools for issue prevention, participate in code reviews, screen for coding patterns, and address pull requests requiring technical knowledge.
  • Create test plans, identify required tests and tools, interpret test results to achieve business objectives, identify and contain defects in software code to prevent customer impact, and prepare findings from testing teams to share with stakeholders.
  • Respond to incidents during on-call rotations, troubleshoot common issues, deploy fixes, alert teams to major issues, and escalate complex issues affecting multiple components to other engineers under appropriate guidance.
  • Leverage software developer tools for code maintenance, identify useful tools for product creation, stay aware of tools outside areas of expertise, and invest in staying current with training resources to improve product performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate relevant technical working knowledge to understand requirements.
  • Identify and contribute to the development and solution strategies to team members that improve the design and functionality of interface features across one or more project features, under minimal guidance.
  • Apply standard processes on the use of programming languages (e.g. HTML, C++, Java) to write code that fulfills website modification requests and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with others to support the piloting of new technology capabilities and features that enhance the user website experience across e-commerce products.
  • Analyze bugs for simple issues and apply debugging tools to verify assumptions.

We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didn't work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or more than 2 years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD).

• Front-End: Knowledge of and ability to develop front-end code (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript) in support of product development.

• User Interface Design: Knowledge of user interface design, which is the interaction where users and computers interact.

• Back-end: Knowledge of and ability to develop back-end (e.g., Javascript for NodeJS, Python, Java) code in support of solution and product development.

• API Generation: The ability to develop and utilize Application Program Interfaces (APIs).

• AI/ML Experience: Knowledge and working experience with building applications or solutions using AI/ML.

• Experience on application development on Linux is required.

• Experience in applying modern Agile Software Development practices is required.

• Experience with database technologies like MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB.

• Knowledge and working experience on Git/Stash, Ant, Maven, Jenkins, CI/CD and Jira.

• Be equally passionate about technology and solving large-scale complex business problems.

• Be an established self-starter who possesses a relentless drive to initiate change, raise the technical bar and deliver results.

• Have expert knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle.

• Be equally content prototyping and tinkering with new applications as well operating within the rigor of making solutions production-ready.

• Have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a highly iterative, agile and collaborative team environment.
