The Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry opens a position for a research assistant in the Cultural Heritage Research Group.

The candidates who meet the conditions stated in the act "Ustawa o Polskiej Akademii Nauk" dated 30 April 2010 (Dz.U. 2018 poz. 1475 z póź. zm.), art 89. Ust. 4 for the position of research assistant are encouraged to apply.

The assistant, supervised by the group leader, will be responsible for the operation of the research laboratory. Additionally, they will work on determining the mechanical properties of materials that make up heritage objects - historical and contemporary - using universal testing machines, a dynamic mechanical analyzer, climate chambers, a HIROX microscope scanner, and speckle interferometry. An important element of the work will be the preparation of material samples for testing according to traditional recipes.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure effective operation of the research laboratory.
  • Prepare samples of historical and contemporary materials.
  • Characterize a wide group of historical and contemporary materials using the techniques listed above.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in mechanical characterization of materials, preferably supported by JRC publications – 0-20 points.
  • Experience in the experimental determination of physicochemical properties of materials relevant to heritage objects, preferably supported by JRC publications – 0-10 points.
  • Experience in non-destructive testing of materials, preferably supported by JRC publications – 0-30 points.

The minimal number of points required for admission – 30.

Additional Information

Remuneration: The gross salary is 5000-5400 PLN/month (roughly 1200 Euro/month) depending on the Candidate's experience.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Research experience documented by scientific publications in journals enlisted in JCR or patents and carried grants.
  • Master's degree in one of the following disciplines: mechanical engineering, physics, material science, chemical engineering, or similar.
