About the Department
The Performing Arts department consists of a small, dedicated team of music, dance and drama teachers who are passionate about teaching and learning committed to further enhancing the performing arts provision throughout the school. Music teaching takes place in one of two classrooms, one of them being equipped with full size weighted keyboards and iMac computers. Our performance spaces range from our main halls and more intimate settings within school, to external venues including local theatres, auditoriums and concert venues for our larger events.

About you
You will be an important part of our Performing Arts team who is able to teach Music across Primary and Secondary. You will be a collaborative colleague who can challenge students to set ambitious targets for themselves and seek out and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies to enhance the student experience and outcomes.

Job Responsibilities
As a Music teacher you will aspire to the highest standards of professionalism and will, in particular:

  • Promote the vision and philosophy of the school ensuring that children are working towards being truly internationally minded global citizens.
  • Ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting are of the highest quality and meet the varying learning and social needs of students.
  • Be flexible and adjust to the needs of the school, actively contributing to the school development plans and growth.
  • Deliver extra-curricular clubs and performances in line with the school's expectations, including Primary clubs.
  • Support all key stage events, such as productions, concerts and assemblies, including Primary Musical Production, Christmas concerts, End of Year Performing Arts celebration.
  • Engage with the Juilliard and IPC curricula in the school.
  • Inspiring students to be passionate, curious, and excited learners.
  • Setting consistently high standards.
  • Develop effective approaches to learning in students.
  • Planning effective teaching programmes which provide exemplary learning opportunities.
  • Identifying and supporting individual learning needs.
  • Maintaining high levels of behaviour that encourage learning.
  • Use baseline data to set ambitious targets for student achievement.
  • Effectively using homework and co-curricular learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate and engage with The Juilliard School Curriculum Specialists through a series of virtual and in-person visits.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, liaising with other staff as appropriate.

  • Participate fully in the school's performance management procedures and appraisal, including objective setting.

Skills/Abilities

  • Experience of teaching a UK National Curriculum. - Essential
  • Experience of teaching IPC curriculum or following the principles of an IPC school. -Desirable
  • Experience of teaching IGCSE and IBDP Music -Desirable
  • Proven track record with at least two years' teaching experience. - Essential
  • Experience of directing school choirs, orchestras, bands or other ensembles. - Essential
  • Good classroom practice and interpersonal skills. - Essential
  • Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curriculum to engage children and enable them to reach their potential. - Essential
  • Working in partnership with parents. - Essential
  • Strong musicianship skills in performance, composition and theory. - Essential
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching strategies across Primary and Secondary. - Essential

Competencies/Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level or above in Music plus teaching qualification (BA, PGCE, QTS, GTP or equivalent).
  • A strong record of professional development.
