Offer Description

A person employed as an adiunkt-tenure (assistant professor) for an indefinite period at the Department of the Theory of Strong Interactions and Many Body Systems- NZ21 at IFJ PAN will be obliged to participate in work on research topics and projects implemented and planned for the nearest period at the NZ21 Department.

The basic tasks of the employed person will include:

  • Analysis of the current state of knowledge with regard to research in quantum chromodynamics and specific selected problems, e.g. production of quarkonium in various reactions or production of exotic hadrons such as tetraquarks.
  • Improve or propose new approaches and prepare mathematical descriptions of proposed approaches (e.g. light cone approach to bound states).
  • Preparation of computer programmes for specific projects.
  • Compare results with experimental data, if any, or propose specific experimental studies (e.g. BELLE, LHCb, ALICE, EIC).
  • Supervision of doctoral students and participation in the popularisation of physics.

The employed person will also be obliged to disseminate the results of research in the form of publications in leading scientific journals indexed in the JCR and speeches during seminars and conferences, including international ones. This person will also be obliged to apply for external funding for research.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in the physical sciences or related disciplines with a scientific record substantially equivalent to that required of candidates for a postdoctoral degree, or a postdoctoral degree in the physical sciences or related disciplines.
  • Qualifications necessary to carry out research tasks at NZ21.
  • Knowledge of research topics related to the description of bound states in a relativistic approach, inclusive or exclusive production of particles in particular quarkonium, and particle production in photon-photon reactions.
  • Experience in the field of complex numerical calculations and presentation of results at international conferences.
  • Work skills regarding work in an international team.
  • Good knowledge of programming languages FORTRAN, Python; Mathematica, ROOT.
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English.

Welcome:

  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence tools.
  • Representation of young physicists in Polish or European organisations.

Candidates applying for employment in IFJ PAN are required to contact the head of the NZ21 Department, prof. dr hab. Antoni Szczurek (Antoni.Szczurek@ifj.edu.pl) at an early stage, who may ask the candidate to deliver a seminar before submitting the application, and then the Head of the Department submits an employment recommendation to the Competition Committee.

Selection process:

  • All applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee selects the candidates to be invited to interviews based on submitted documents.
  • Interviews with candidates shall take place from June 9th, to June 11th, 2025. Candidates qualified for interviews shall be notified by e-mail about the exact date of the interview by May 26th, 2025. During the interview the candidate shall be required to give a presentation, stored on a pen drive, lasting 10 minutes at maximum which shall present the candidate's most important achievement.
  • The competition shall be concluded by June 27th, 2025.
  • Each candidate shall be notified by e-mail about the results of the competition.
  • The final decision on employing and salary shall be taken by IFJ PAN Director.

Additional comments:

A person employed at the position of Assistant Professor with a PhD degree will receive a monthly basic salary of PLN 7,000 gross, and with a postdoctoral degree PLN 7,800 gross. The total amount of remuneration is influenced by additional components, such as: length of service and allowance for working under conditions of exposure to ionizing radiation (if applicable).

Type of contract: contract of employment, full-time at IFJ PAN as the only place of work.
