Senior Mechanical Engineer (with electrical knowledge) IRC259235

As part of the Mechanical Engineering team for the surgical robot project, the Mechanical Engineer will be an integral part of a team developing portfolio for next generation robotics. This position requires a candidate with significant new product development experience and an understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes. He/she will report to the Mechanical Engineering Leader.

Requirements

Must have experience with:

  1. Standard NPI / NPD process and documentation: from Concept to customer in a stage gate process
  2. Design & development of system/subsystem having plastic molded, sheet-metal, casted, and machined components
  3. Selection of COTS items mechanical and mechatronics off the shelf / Buy parts based on product and functional requirements
  4. Prototype development
  5. General structural design and engineering calculations
  6. Applying GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
  7. Understanding of material selection and manufacturability considerations for plastic and machining components
  8. Creating 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks; knowing Onshape is a plus
  9. Identifying suitable materials, applying DFM/DFA concepts in design, and being familiar with the latest engineering design methods, tools, and processes

Preferred experience:

  1. Exposure to medical device design and process and knowledge of IEC 60601-1
  2. Strong experience in test fixture design, update & support for manufacturing (mechanical and mechatronics)
  3. Build assemblies (including cabling)
  4. Test Protocols/Test Reports preparation; Acceptance criteria testing
  5. Arena PLM for managing lifecycle of the components, managing ECO / ECR, creating EBOM
  6. Agile Sprint process
  7. Design of Experiments (DOE) and product testing
  8. Problem-solving techniques

  2. Ability to present and articulate ideas to key stakeholders and leadership team
  3. Excellent communication skills and a positive 'can do' attitude with teams
  4. Quality mindset in design and documentation
  5. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills in English

  7. Good problem-solving skills

Critical Experience:

Minimum 5 or more years of related Mechanical design experience with expertise in new product development.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Understand the functional requirements of the device and ensure that the design meets those requirements
  2. Design, update, prototype & support test fixtures for testing & manufacturing
  3. Build test fixtures and assemblies (including cabling/sourcing cables)
  4. Support organization of fixtures and potentially additional tracking of other materials from teams
  5. Create new, effective, and efficient designs based on problem statements
  6. Ensure the application of new and existing technologies provides the optimum design of the product
  7. Provide technical feedback during frequent technical contact with team leaders to optimize product design
  8. Coordinate and analyze product requirements with multiple stakeholders, document information
  9. Detail design, design freeze, associated documentation, reports as per the QMS process
  10. Create CAD and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks 2021/2024
  11. Apply and interpret the GD&T Controls and Tolerance Stack up
  12. Support the maintenance of product files and other relevant documentation to comply with quality standards
  13. Work with global multi-functional project teams
  14. Create engineering design calculations wherever necessary
  15. Create and deliver required documents as part of the NPD phase gate and QMS process
  16. Work with PLM, ECN / ECO / (Design change order / Design change notice) applications
